Chapter 951 I Must Have Both
Even though he proposed this collaboration, he wasn't sure if that young man Kurt could successfully take down Joseph.
After all, the latter was the head of the Rogers family.
Kurt's poison-crafting skills were indeed exquisite, but there were numerous experts around Joseph.
He was an exceptional perfumer, so assassinating him would essentially be impossible.
He was genuinely curious about how Kurt would go about secretly harming that old man.
Kurt's carefree laughter came through the phone. “If it were half a month ago, I indeed wouldn't have found a way to bring down the Rogers family. But now, his son's life is in my hands. If I tell him to go east, he won't dare to go west.”
Acupuncture skills...
Ha!
That's what my older brother is best at.
Hence, I'm naturally well-versed too.
Broderick furrowed his brows and asked, “What do you mean by that? What do you mean his son's life is in your hands?”
“There's no need for you to worry about that, Mr. Broderick. I know what I'm doing. If you still don't trust me, that's fine. We can end our collaboration right here...”
“No,” Broderick responded anxiously, “I trust you. From this moment on, our contract is officially in effect.”
“Great, then it's settled. Do you have any other questions?”
After some thought, Broderick said, “My daughter is in the hands of the Luther family. They proposed a swap using Fragrance Journal, but that old fool Joseph wouldn't agree. Mr. Kurt, I know you hold the reins over the Luther family. Can you help me rescue my daughter?”
After speaking, he waited nervously for the other party's response.
He initially thought he'd have to do some persuading, but unexpectedly, Kurt agreed without a second thought. “Sure, to demonstrate my sincerity in collaborating with you, I'll save Ms. Eunice.”
Broderick was somewhat taken aback, but after the shock, he felt a deep sense of joy.
“Many thanks to you, Mr. Kurt.”
Countryside manor.
Living room in the main house.
Catherine walked in from outside with a gloomy face.
Seeing that, everyone who was chatting in the room stood up from the couch.
Bailey asked with a hint of confusion, “Cath, what's wrong? Who upset you?”
Simon paced up to her, furrowing his brows as he said, “Who has been bullying you? Tell me, and I'll make sure they pay.”
Catherine glared at him, her gaze tinged with annoyance.
After pushing him aside, she spoke with a hint of coldness. “The Rogers family has changed their mind. They no longer plan to exchange Eunice with Fragrance Journal. Even though I'm not sure what they're up to, this is their decision.”
Bailey and Artemis exchanged a glance, each sensing a realization of a scheme in the other's eyes.
“Hasn't your father always wanted you to succeed him as the head of the Rogers family? If they hand over Fragrance Journal now, then you'll be, indeed, the rightful authority of the Rogers family. Logically speaking, he shouldn't be opposing.”
Catherine nodded and said, “It's Uncle Broderick. He said he would rather sacrifice Eunice than give up the Fragrance Journal. For years, he had been inciting the elders in our clan to oppose my ascension. Now, why would he hand things over to me so easily?
Even if his own daughter is the one imprisoned at this moment, he would sacrifice her. That old geezer's overly ambitious.”
Bailey nodded slightly.
It seems that the internal affairs of the Rogers family are quite complex. We will need to tread more carefully moving forward.
“So, what's your plan now? To kill Eunice and then take on the Rogers family?”
Catherine remained silent, not saying a word.
She also didn't know what to do.
Once Simon makes a move, it would ignite a battle between two prestigious families.
No matter who ends up losing, it would be a tremendous blow to me, which is something I couldn't bear.
While being in a daze, Catherine felt a sudden weight around the waist.
Without thinking, she looked down and saw a sturdy arm wrapped around her waist.
Then, Simon's deep and resonant magnetic voice echoed from above.
“If they refuse to hand over the Fragrance Journal, then we have no choice but to go to war. However, don't worry. I will only force them to give me what I want. I won't harm your loved ones in the slightest.”
Under normal circumstances, if Simon were to act this affectionately, she would definitely resist.
Yet, this time, she didn't. Biting her lip tightly, she stated, “Am I so useless? I can't even protect my own daughter?”
“You're silly.” Simon ruffled her hair gently and continued gently, “In such an extremely ruthless and evil place, you've done an amazing job raising Luna. Leave the rest to me. After all, I am her father. I may not have been there for her childhood, but the least I can do now is to ensure her survival.”
Catherine took a deep breath, a cold glint flashing in her eyes.
“Since Uncle Broderick doesn't care about Eunice's life, then I should just let her—”
Before she could finish speaking, a sudden ringtone abruptly echoed throughout the room.
Bailey was staring intently at her phone, on the screen of which a string of encrypted numbers was flashing.
After a few seconds of silence, she extended her finger to slide over the answer button, conveniently pressing the speakerphone.
In the next moment, a man's voice, carrying a hint of a smirk, came through the receiver. It was Kurt. “Bailey, you must be surprised to receive my call.”
With a firm grip on his phone, Bailey narrowed her eyes and asked, “Our battle hasn't even started yet. Are you sure you want to rush to your doom this early?”
Kurt burst into hearty laughter. “Bailey, you're still as cocky as ever. But this time, you might not make it out of Gregan alive.”
A hint of impatience surfaced on Bailey's face.
She didn't have the energy to deal with this nuisance right now.
“Spit it out if you have something to say. If not, I'm hanging up.”
“Come on. I know you're in a hurry to get the Fragrance Journal and the Encyclopedia of Poison. I don't have the Fragrance Journal, but I can give you the Encyclopedia of Poison.”
Bailey's hand paused just as she was about to hang up the call. She then asked frostily, “What tricks are you trying to play now?”
They needed the Encyclopedia of Poison, indeed.
Although this object belonged to the Yablon family, it had been sealed in the Forbidden Ground for many years. As a result, even Cameron was unaware of many details about it.
They were just about to detoxify the poison in Luna's body, and they needed the poison-crafting skills from the Encyclopedia of Poison to assist them.
Therefore...
“Kurt, would you really be so kind as to give me that? After all, it's something you've worked so hard to steal.”
She deliberately emphasized the word “steal.”
Kurt chuckled lightly. “There's no need to mock me. You can't make me lose out on anything. I've already memorized the contents of the encyclopedia to the point of fluency. To me, it's nothing more than a pile of scrap paper now. But for you, it could be a lifesaver.”
Bailey closed her eyes briefly, took a deep breath, and forcefully suppressed the anger welling up inside her. Through gritted teeth, she asked, “What are your terms?”
She didn't believe that scoundrel would be overflowing with sympathy.
In fact, Kurt was straightforward. He cut to the chase and said, “Release Eunice, and I'll return the item to you.”
Bailey was taken aback for a moment, and then she quickly regained her composure.
Ha, it seems this scumbag has already gotten involved with Mr. Broderick.
Very well!
I'll wipe them out in one go.
“Trading a life for a tattered encyclopedia, what a waste! You really have the nerve to suggest such a thing.”
Silence followed right after that.
Bailey continued, “If you want to save Eunice, you can. But you must hand over the Encyclopedia of Poison and Blaze.”
