Larissa sneakily went to the door. She pressed herself against the door to listen to what was happening outside.
The living room seemed to be empty.
Larissa rejoiced. She planned to get her laptop and documents back in secret without Kevan noticing.
Alas, the moment she opened the room door, she heard the sound of the next door opening too.
"Mommy!" Aster shouted, "You're awake!"
Larissa's heart skipped a beat. Her expression showed some annoyance at the untimeliness of her son's appearance.
Kevan followed behind Aster. He looked at her, his eyes stopping at a specific place before they quickly moved away. His expression became somewhat unnatural too.
Larissa was confused as she touched her face. Still, before she could figure out what was wrong, Aster shouted out the problem. "Mommy! Why is your mouth swollen?!"
Larissa froze.
Aster was young. He screamed, "Did you trip on your mouth? Did a mosquito bite you? Are there even mosquitoes in winter?"
Larissa covered her mouth and ran back to her room. She saw her swollen lips in the dressing table mirror. There was even a spot that bled. A light touch made it hurt. She did not have to think too deeply to figure out who was responsible for this.
That fucker, Kevan! He dared do this disgusting thing to her while she was asleep!
Rage made Larissa's face become hideous. But when she thought of Aster, she forced herself to smile. When Larissa went out again, Kevan was playing with building blocks with Aster on the living room floor.
The blocks were from Gary, who bought them the last time he came here. Aster could build the model of a city with it. Aster had worked on it for many days, but he'd only built less than a tenth of it. The progress was very slow.
