Larissa could sense the way Kevan treated her differently. But she was not sure if the difference in treatment was because of her or because of Aster.
After all, he knew from the beginning that Aster was his son. Maybe his actions of pleasing her were all because of giving Aster a complete family.
But that picture—
Larissa rolled out of bed and quickly stormed out of the door. She scared the two people watching a cartoon on the couch. They turned around to stare at her.
"Mommy, have you finished eating?" Aster asked first.
"Not yet." Larissa forced a smile out with great difficulty. "I'm looking for your daddy." As she spoke, she looked at Kevan. "Come to the study with me."
Kevan gave the remote control to Aster. As he stood up, he put his hand on the kid's head. "Watch by yourself, then shower and go to sleep when it's time. Do you understand?"
Aster nodded. "Got it!" He smiled slyly like a fox. His eyes were sparkling. "Don't mind me. Chat for as long as you want!"
Larissa glared at him, and Aster sat up straight and pretended to watch the television.
…
Kevan followed Larissa into the study. Afraid that Aster would listen to them in secret, Larissa closed the door. She even locked it.
Kevan raised an eyebrow at her actions. When she turned around, he pretended to go back a few steps. He let out a terrified expression that only made him look dumb. "What are you going to do to me?"
Larissa was just about to demand answers from him when he said that. So, she ended up sputtering instead.
Soon, Kevan spread his arms, looking like someone who was going to die. "Come at me then."
To his little performance, Larissa only snapped. "Drama queen!"
Kevan smiled lightly and returned to being normal. He stuck his hands in his pockets as he leaned against the edge of the study table. He asked, "Did you bring me here because you figured it out?"
