Chapter 912
Due to the recent pandemic in Caldor, many international trades with Caldor had reduced greatly. Blue Star Shipping had naturally
received many order cancellations too.
The company was in a sad state. Many departments were spreading rumors about a major employee layoff. Larissa specifically tried to
verify this with Lewis.
Lewis kept working overtime this week, and he looked worse than usual “We do have plans to lay off some people, but it can’t be
considered ‘major.” He sounded tired as well as heartbroken and resigned.
“Lay off the employees based on performance then! Our company has always had this system, it was just that our performance was good before and we were able to take care of so many employees, that was why we never enforced this system properly.
“Now that the company is in trouble, those who are not working properly should be kicked out.”
“Don’t look like that–Lewis was amused by Larissa’s worried frown. He even teased her. “The sky hasn’t even fallen yet!”
“Caldor’s government is controlling the pandemic well, so it probably won’t be long before business resumes over there. Think positive.
our company is not the only one affected by this–I hear that Moorewell has gotten canceled orders too.”
“Our losses have got to be bigger than Moorewell, right?” Larissa was not the least bit comforted by Lewis‘ words.
As Gary was a proper born and bred Caldorian, most of Blue Star Shipping’s clients were Kyminian companies, and there was a great deal
of Caldorian companies among those numbers.
Moorewell Shipping was the exact opposite of Blue Star–Their cargo ships only traveled between Aldovia and Epoth, so losing orders
from Kymin was not a big deal for them.
“This is only temporary.” Lewis was rather confident though. “It won’t be long before the virus spreads all over Epoth and Aldovia. Moorewell will only be worse than we are by then.”
Larissa did not know where Lewis‘ blind confidence came from.
“If the virus spreads in Epoth and Aldovia aren’t we goners as well?”
“Do you never pay attention to Caldorian news? Lewis gave Larissa a look, “Other than the city that had the first viral outbreak, the viral cases in other places back home are actually going down. Once those cities have their lockdowns lifted and resumed business, our
orders will go back up again.”
“Don’t look at the single digit numbers reported by Epath and Aldovia now for their confirmed viral cases, if the government and people don’t treat this matter seriously, they may only be worse than Caldor in the end.”
Larissa’s friends and family were all in Aldovia, so she paid less attention to the news back in Caldor. She only knew that Caldor’s economy had practically stopped due to the spread of some new viral disease. She did not pay attention to the progress of the epidemic. so she knew even less of the things that Lewis talked about.
“Actually-“Lewis spoke slowly. “Uncle Gary and I have been thinking about moving the company back to Caldor. But that’s not something that can be done so easily, especially at a time like this.” He sighed softly.
“I’m just letting you know beforehand so you are prepared. As for whether or not the move will happen, we will have to see what our income is like for the second half of the year.”
