On the other end of the phone, Harvey was in a meeting.
His voice was soft, "I'm in a meeting, and I'll be back before nine. Oh, Denise is coming over to pick up a file later, it's on my study desk. Could you hand it to her for me?"
"Sure," Eloise replied.
She didn't hang up the phone right away, she was reluctant to.
Harvey was in the conference room and couldn't talk much, he gently said, "I'm hanging up."
After hanging up, Eloise was contemplating how to keep her house's condition a secret when Denise came over.
After waiting for 20 minutes, Denise didn't show up, but called instead.
Denise sounded anxious, "Eloise, my kid is having a fever, so I need to rush home, could you deliver the file for me? It's the one on Attorney Horigan's desk."
Eloise and Denise were close and agreed immediately.
Denise was grateful for it.
Eloise went to the study to get the file, then drove to the law firm.
She thought, after Harvey finished his meeting, they could go home together.
He would definitely be surprised by her preparations.
A smile appeared on Eloise's lips.
At night, her white BMW was weaving through the traffic. About half an hour later, she arrived at Prestige Legal Advisors.
Eloise went up the building.
To her surprise, most of the lights in the law firm were already off.
No one was in Harvey's office, but his another secretary was still there. Seeing Eloise, the secretary said in a puzzled manner, "Attorney Horigan left in a hurry about half an hour ago after receiving a call."
Eloise's face changed slightly.
His secretary initially thought Attorney Horigan went to celebrate Valentine's Day, but seeing Eloise's face, it didn't seem to be the case.
She cautiously observed Eloise's reaction.
Eloise understood his secretary's feelings, she forced a smile, "It’s okay."
She went downstairs and sat in her car.
The wisest choice at this moment was to go back to the apartment and wait for Harvey, then spend a quiet Valentine's Day together, followed by a flight to France.
But...Eloise gently stroked the steering wheel.
She stepped on the gas, and the white car headed towards the hospital.
The night was getting darker.
It started raining, the droplets fell one by one, disrupting the young couples on the street.
The pedestrians on the road gradually decreased.
Eloise drove the car to the hospital. She didn't go upstairs immediately, but sat quietly for a while.
Going to see Joan would definitely be unpleasant, but if she didn't go, she felt that this matter might bother her for a lifetime, which was not her character.
In the end, Eloise unbuckled her seat belt.
Joan was a celebrity, Eloise could easily find her ward with a little inquiry.
The door of the VIP ward was not completely closed, just leaving a crack.
She could clearly see the situation inside and hear the conversation.
Before Eloise reached the door, she heard Joan's voice, which was very noisy.
When she arrived at the door, the ward was as quiet as death, only a few shallow breaths could be heard.
Eloise stood at the door, she saw...Joan hugging Harvey from behind.
His body was tense, and his face was suppressed.
Only in front of Joan would he show such an expression.
Suddenly...Harvey pushed Joan away forcefully.
He looked at Joan, his voice as cold as ice, "Why shouldn't I hate you? If it wasn't for you, I would still regard marriage as sacred, rather than useless paper and constraints, let alone a means of controlling people! Joan... of course I should hate you."
"Don't hate me! Harvey... please don't hate me! Can we start over?"
Harvey didn't respond to her.
Joan, wearing a loose hospital gown, threw herself into his arms, her head resting on his chest.
She whispered dreamily, "I know you can't forget me! I know you don't love Eloise!"
Harvey shivered momentarily.
