"Why do you hug me every night and then act like it’s nothing in the morning?" Iris felt her tongue go numb when she asked the question. She didn’t know where she got the guts to ask him this.
But, she was always very clear with her emotions and everything about her. She hid nothing from him.
Therefore, his actions and his capricious ways of treating her left her in apprehension. She kept questioning what he meant by his every action. She needed an explanation, so she would know where she was standing.
Did he want her? Or was it just an impulse from the mate bond, especially when she learned about the reason why the lycan chose him? She couldn’t even ask about it, because Cane barely gave an explanation to her for anything.
"You make me confused," Iris admitted when Cane didn’t say anything. She had expected as much, but she really wanted to know why he did that.
Cane was silent for a while, before he spoke, "You don’t want me to hug you?" He cut straight to the point, but then, the answer for the question that Iris wanted was complicated. It was not a ’yes or no’ question and couldn’t be simplified in the way Cane thought of it.
Iris pressed her lips into a thin line. She wanted to avert her eyes from his intense gaze and take back her question. She should have kept quiet and not said anything, but then, how long could she stand it?
The relationship between them was very vague and she didn’t know what to expect or how to view him.
Cane made it clear to Aria that he only wanted her to curb his carnal desires, nothing more. As for Iris, the last time they did it was when she was in heat and every time they shared a bed after, he didn’t do anything, aside from holding her tightly.
Did he only want her because the mate bond gave him comfort and a shred of peace to his anarchic mind?
"I need you to let me know where I am standing. What am I to you?"
"You are my mate, the Luna of the pack."
"Do you really feel that way? Do you really see me as your mate?" Iris curled her fingers in the blanket, holding herself back from crying, because somehow, she was so upset. "Or am I still Gerald’s daughter in your eyes? And you had to settle with me because of the mate bond?" And this heavy feeling made her feel so weak.
Cane could see the hurt in her eyes, but he didn’t know what to do with her, nor did he know how to answer her question. What was she for him?
"Can we talk about this later?" Cane said in the end. He had a lot of things going on today, which Iris was not aware of, and he was on the verge of insanity.
Iris didn’t want to be into him, nor did she want to fall in love with him if he didn’t want the same thing, but with the attachment that they had for each other and the mate bond between them, that was not impossible, but then she didn’t want to add love to the already complicated situation, because the depth of her love today, would be the depth of her pain tomorrow. fгee𝑤ebɳoveɭ.cøm
