Chapter 271: SQUABLING

"We will go on a ride?" Iris blinked her eyes, if they were going on a ride, it meant they would go somewhere far. "Where are we going?" She thought Cane asked her to have lunch in the dining hall.

"To the city," Cane said lightly. "You have not seen it."

This was the first time for Iris to be in the capital city and when they went out before, it was not for sightseeing.

"Oh, okay." Iris was thrilled that Cane was actually taking her with him to the city.

She didn’t mind if he did this because he was concerned about the dark wisp that would make an appearance all of a sudden, forcing him to take her almost everywhere, or if he was taking her out just because he wanted to directly see the chaos in the city. She didn’t mind it at all.

The fact that Cane included her and involved her in his plans made her feel she was part of something. This sense of belonging made her heart warm.

It didn’t take long for Iris to change her dress into a simple one that was suitable for her to wear for a ride.

"Can you ride by yourself?" Cane took her hand, as they walked out of the bedroom. He knew Redmond taught her how to ride, but he was not sure of the progress of it, since he had never seen her on horseback before.

"I think I can," Iris replied, still doubtful. She remembered how frustrated Redmond was and he was barely satisfied the last time he taught her before they left for the capital city. But then, Redmond was a perfectionist, it was hard to meet his expectations.

Cane said nothing, as he led the way to the front yard, where four horses were waiting for them. Aside from them, Redmond and Ethan would come as well and right now, the two of them were bickering again about something insignificant.

Iris wondered if they would start to claw at each other’s faces if they were left alone for sometime.

"I told you, she can’t ride a horse on her own!" Redmond barked.

"I am not surprised to hear that. Due to your poor way of teaching, she still can’t ride a horse by herself!" Ethan bit back. He looked more like himself right now, though his face was a little bit pale and he was way skinnier than the last time they saw him before the order from the King to lock him up was executed.

However, seeing him bickering with Redmond, somehow, gave a sense of relief for Iris. It was way better than looking at his hollow expression when she saw him in the main hall.

"Say it again! I will cut your head off!" Redmond growled.

"What? You should be ashamed of yourself!" Ethan didn’t back down.

"Enough!" Cane snapped at the two of them and they stopped bickering, but they kept throwing dagger looks at each other.
