The Alpha: Claiming His Enemy's Daughter novel Chapter 338

Chapter 338: THEY FOUND SOMETHING

Iris followed Cane to search through the whole wizard tower with the help of hundreds of royal warriors under Cane’s authority. They flipped through all the things within the tower to get information that they needed. And among those people, there were warriors from the Howling Wolf pack as well.

Amidst this mess and their main assignment to find more information on black magic, no one would notice that Cane’s warriors were looking for different information entirely, since they knew they wouldn’t find anything there.

Iris was not sure what they were looking for, but of course, it would be something that would benefit Cane and add more to his knowledge about the whole palace’s affairs. Her head was throbbing painfully because of lack of sleep and worrying over Cane’s complicated scheme. She didn’t think her brain would be on par with his even when she was in her best condition.

And, Iris couldn’t help it anymore. It was only two hours until sunrise and her eyelids felt so heavy. She couldn’t resist dozing off, as she sat down on a chair, leaning her head against the wall beside her.

On the other hand, Cane immersed himself in the ledger that recorded all the activities the royal sorcerers engaged in in the years prior. He was inside the study room of the head sorcerer alone with Iris, while the warriors continued rummaging through the other parts of this wizard tower.

It took a long time for him to realize Iris had actually fallen asleep, curling herself on the chair, hugging her knees, and almost falling.

He took long strides to reach her and secured her body before she hurt herself. For a moment, he stared at her with his deep gaze, as he caressed her cheek.

This woman didn’t know how crucial this situation was and how important her role was in his grand scheme. He wouldn’t be able to pull it off without her and make all the process run this smoothly. It was faster than he imagined to reach this point and get his hands on this classified information of the royal sorcerers.

Cane knelt down in front of Iris and kissed her hand, while whispering a simple appreciation of ’thank you’.

He meant it.

Cane put down the logbook on the floor and carefully picked Iris’ body up. He headed to the long sofa and put her down there gently. She was still asleep. She could sleep everywhere and he found this trait of hers very endearing, though he would like her to be more cautious about her surroundings for her own safety.

He took the book and then walked back to the sofa, as he lifted her head and put it on his lap before he sat down.

Cane used one hand to read the logbook, while his other hand absentmindedly played with her hair, feeling the soft strands between his fingers. As the sun rose in the horizon, dyeing the sky with a bright color, through the window, the golden light spilled inside this room, adding to the serenity between the two people.

Iris slept through the morning and only woke up around afternoon, but could not find Cane around her, instead, it was Hanna, who was waiting for her with a tray of food. It was already lunch time.

"Where is Cane?" Iris asked, as she pushed herself from the sofa and a cloak fell from her body to her lap. She rubbed her eyes sleepily.

"The Alpha is in the main hall with all the important people," Hanna informed her with a complicated look in her eyes.
