Chapter 359: A PLEASANT DINNER

Iris frowned. She pouted her lips when Cane whispered into her ear, as he told her where the body of Prince Vemion was.

She then tilted her head and stared at him in disbelief as she said in annoyance. "You know I am deaf, right?"

Mirth danced in those dark eyes of his as a small smile tugged up the corners of Cane’s lips when he heard her protest. "I know," he said curtly.

"Are you playing with me?" Iris narrowed her eyes at him, but he simply brushed her bangs and stood up.

"Let’s go, we will have dinner with Alpha Gill." Cane took Iris’ hand. She looked reluctant to have dinner with Alpha Gill. She didn’t even want to be near him whatsoever.

Cane could see that, but he couldn’t cater to her every need. Iris should learn how to fight her discomfort because just like what he had told and showed her, their road ahead would be filled with much worse than just some discomfort, thus she needed to figure out how to face her own crisis.

Protecting her was his priority, but coddling her wouldn’t help anyone in the long run.

Iris took his hand and stood up. She was not happy to have dinner with Alpha Gill, but she didn’t refuse to go. As long as Cane was by her side, she could endure this dinner.

"Tell me, where is Prince Vemion’s body?" Iris became curious because Cane tricked her.

"I have told you earlier," Cane said, as both of them stepped out of the bedroom, holding hands like usual, but for Jace, who had been waiting for them outside of the door, this was something that made him frown.

Since when did the Alpha start being so touchy? He was not like this even with Aria. Because of the nightmare they had gone through, most of them hated to be touched casually and developed a habit of avoiding skinship altogether, unless it was with someone they were comfortable with.

Did he feel comfortable with her? What actually happened in the capital city? For someone who didn’t see them for months, this change puzzled him greatly.

"Hi, Jace," Iris greeted him sheepishly when she saw him.

"Oh, hi Luna..." Jace mumbled. He saw difference in Iris as well, because she was way more comfortable with Cane than before, same as the Alpha and this luna was talking a little bit more than her usual reserved self that he came to know during the few times he met her.

Iris smiled, but she avoided looking into his eyes, as she turned her focus back to Cane swiftly. "Tell me..." she said in a low voice, tugging at his sleeve, but Cane simply repeated the same trick, leaving his mate frustrated.

Meanwhile, this subtle gesture and the banter between the two of them didn’t go unnoticed by Jace. He was floored. Was Cane teasing her? Did that even make sense?

They exchanged letters very often, whether it was a secret missive or a report regarding the two packs, which would be fine even if the King’s spy read, since it would be too suspicious if they couldn’t find anything to be reported back to the King.

But then, of course, even in those two types of letters, Ethan had never mentioned anything about the progress of the relationship between Cane and Iris.
