Chapter 385: ’ACCIDENT’

Though Iris was used to Cane taking her hand or dropping his hand around her waist whenever they walked together, right now, there were a hundred pairs of eyes on them! They didn’t even hide their surprise to see this show of affection from the Alpha toward his luna.

Iris was a little bit uncomfortable with the way they stared at them, but when she glanced at Cane, her mate was unfazed. He didn’t seem bothered by it in the slightest, as he led her toward the carriage. He helped her get inside and Jace went with them, as the Beta sat down on the coachmen seat, leaving Oliver and Sir Elijah as the people in charge for the distribution of food.

Jace looked like someone who just swallowed a bear’s heart, as he was dying of curiosity at this turn of events. It was out of character for Cane to show such deep affection.

Meanwhile, inside the carriage, Cane handed Iris a loaf of warm bread and a waterskin that contained warm milk.

"Eat." He said to Iris and started to read his secret missives.

Iris stared at the bread, it was too big for her to eat all by herself, thus she tore off a piece and extended her hand, bringing the piece of bread to Cane’s mouth.

Cane was surprised by the gesture and looked at her questioningly.

"You need to eat too, you have not yet eaten anything," Iris said and then added. "This bread is too much for me."

"I am reading," Cane said simply and pushed her hand away, as he started to read his secret missives again, but Iris brought the piece of bread to his mouth again. This time, she nudged his lips with it.

If something had changed about her, it would be that she had become a little bit bolder. There was no way she would be this persistent a few months ago.

"You don’t need to use your mouth to read your letters," Iris said, nudging the bread against his lips again.

"Are you going to feed me?" Mirth danced in his black eyes when he said that.

"I am trying to help you," Iris corrected him.

For a moment, Cane said nothing and only stared at her, which made Iris frown, but when she was about to protest, he bit into the bread in her hand and continued to read. He allowed her to do as she pleased.

With that, the carriage fell silent once again, but the two people inside, seemingly content with this serene atmosphere, continued doing their own things.
