The reason why Laluna brought baby Vemion with her because she wanted to evoke Cane’s sympathized. She had learned about what happened to his destined mate and how Sofia had fooled him and the rest of his pack about the baby that she claimed as his firstborn.
Added that to the fact his luna had not yet with a child even until now, he must be very devastated and desperate to have his own baby, who would continue his bloodline, since he was the only one, who survived the cruel thing alpha Gerald had done to his family and pack.
And Laluna was more than willing to give him everything. She would give him the baby he wanted.
She was even more convinced when she saw the rare gentleness in his eyes when he saw baby Vemion’s curse was being lifted up.
Despite his rough appearance and how cold he appeared, deep down, he must have a gentle heart and he could be a perfect father figure for baby Vemion.
Not like the other alpha, he didn’t have any mistress and devoted his life to make a great change in this continent. Laluna could die happy to have a man like him.
"Alpha Cane. Can we talk for a while?" Laluna asked softly, her heart swelled with happiness when Cane glanced at the baby in his arms. "Do you want to carry him?" she asked excitedly, thinking that was what he wanted.
Cane took a deep breath, he was having a hard time to control his emotion, which made his voice sounded very cold and dark than usual. "No."
After that curt answer, he walked away from Laluna, but she didn’t give up yet, she blocked his way by standing in front of him and if it was not for the baby, Cane must have shoved her from his sight.
"Alpha Cane, can we have a moment to talk? There is something important that I want to discuss with you."
Cane looked at her emotionlessly and this made Laluna bashful to be stared very intense like this. She stuttered a little bit when she spoke again.
"Can I invite you for a drink in my place?"
"Is this about the ridiculous idea alpha Colter told me earlier?" Cane wanted to leave, but he couldn’t promise he wouldn’t hurt her if she tried to stop him by touching him. The thought of it was loathsome.
Laluna flustered, she caressed her baby’s cheek and spoke in motherly tone. "Alpha Cane... my baby lost his father in such young age and to think he will not have a father figure in his life really hurt me. I know you don’t have feeling for me, but the suggestion suit perfectly with our cooperation, it will benefit our situation."
Laluna looked sad, as she stared at her baby and gave the same gloomy look when she lifted her head to see Cane’s reaction.
"Alpha, you are benevolent and kind, the qualities that not even king Aeon or Alan have." She poured out her heart and admiration toward Cane, knowing how man loved to hear such thing. "Do you really think Koda will be a good regent? You and I know how greedy he is. He is not suit to rule anything, not even to be a regent." She took a step closer and disappointed when Cane took a step back, still, she continued with her narration. "But, you are very different. You actually think about your people."
And with that, Laluna blabbered about all the good qualities that Cane had, how it was his right to sit on the throne, but when she didn’t get any reaction from Cane, she pushed her baby into the calculation.
"Please, alpha Cane, even if you don’t think of me as your mate, please, think about my baby, who has to grow without a father."
Cane scoffed derisively when she used this card, showing how lame and shallow the way she was thinking.
"Iris is completely wrong in this matter..." Cane spoke for the first time. He needed his mate to purify all the negativity from his ears, after he heard all of these bullshits back to back from alpha Colter and Laluna.
"Pardon me?" Laluna blinked her eyes, didn’t understand what Cane meant.
There was this rare smile on Cane’s lips, but it was very different from the smile he showed this morning when Iris lifted Vemion’s curse, this smile sent chill down her spine.
"She shouldn’t be very soft hearted."
Laluna blinked her eyes. She didn’t understand a single thing that Cane was talking about. "What do you mean?" Why he started talking about Iris when they were having a conversation about the future of her baby?
"I was strongly against her decision to save this baby, I couldn’t care less whether this baby is dead or not," Cane said, in low and vicious tone.
Laluna was shocked when she heard that, her body stiffed and Cane took the opportunity to step aside and walked past her, but not after he gave her one final blow to her self esteem.
"Don’t even think about it, the sight of you alone disgusted me." Cane gave her a menacing side eyes, which even made the baby cried, sensing Cane’s antipathy. "You can’t even hold a candle to my mate. You don’t even deserve to kiss her feet."
