"Call Grace!" Aliana immediately shouted, as Ethan and Jace came over to them.
Zephyr shifted into his beast again and rushed toward the other shelter to fetch Grace over. Another fear gripped their heart when they saw Iris was in so much pain, bending her body, hugging her stomach with tears streamed down her face.
She kept saying she was in pain and to help her babies. She was no longer in her reverie state, so did Cane. The lycan had withdrawn and Ethan could see that. He knew it was Lu when he saw the black wisp and his red eyes, at the time he fought the man that looked exactly like Alan.
Everyone gasped when they saw red stained Iris’s lower dress when Cane picked her up to be carried to the side, where the warriors and the knights had taken off their cloaks and gathered them in one place, while Aliana rearranged it for Iris to lay down. She was trembling to see how much the luna was in so much pain.
The knights and the warriors turned their body and left the spot out of respect, since they wouldn’t be much help if they stayed too, thus Cedric took the knights to create a perimeter, while the warriors scoured the area to prevent a monster attack again, just in case there was still a monster around this area.
Their only wish was; there was no more portal that would spit the monsters for them to handle. They had lost so many people right now and the number of their magic users decreased to only twelve that left.
"Cane... it’s hurt..." Iris cried. "Our babies... check our babies..."
Cane gathered the cloaks and put it behind her back to support her body, as he held her hand tightly. "It’s okay. Grace is on her way here. The babies will be fine."
Cane looked calm, but there was no one, who knew the growing rage within him. The storm and turmoil that brew inside his mind and heart.
All of the bad memories flashed back before his eyes when he had to lose his first mate and their child. Yet, Cane tried to suppress that feeling, he tried his hardest to stay in the present and didn’t let his past to catch up with him, because right now, Iris and their babies needed him.
"Grace will be here." Cane kept his voice even, albeit he wanted to curse and rush toward the other shelter and get Grace here right away.
Meanwhile, Lou was exceptionally quiet. He watched from afar, sitting on a big rock. He was far enough, until Iris’s cry couldn’t be heard. After that, he climbed the big rock to get a better view of what had transpired and it was hell. Everything was destroyed, a lot of deep holes on the ground.
But one thing that one would realize was the fact the sky had returned to normal. You could see the clear night sky, though it was dark, but the pale moon shone dimly.
From the other direction, Lou watched a group of beasts came and one of them immediately shifted into her human form, while the rest stayed back, avoided the area and chose to stand on guard.
It was Grace, she immediately approached Iris and Aliana filled about what happened, Abby was there too. She tried her best to keep Iris awake and give her strength, though she didn’t have much. It helped because she didn’t summon the Sylph.
"I can feel the black magic from the babies..." Abby said. She could feel it when she held Iris’s hand and checked on her after some time. It was not easy for her to detect it, but after some time, she could feel that ominous magic.
Meanwhile Aliana stood a little back because she was not sure what to do, this situation was beyond what she had ever experienced.
Grace listened to what Abby and Aliana said, as she checked on the babies, her face immediately turned pale, as she looked at her alpha. The words stuck in her throat.
Cane squeezed Iris’s hand a little bit tighter when he spoke. "Say it, Grace." His voice was deep, the calmness that it carried was very terrifying.
Grace gulped down and she talked through her gritted teeth. "One of the babies died, alpha."
Iris screamed, she was inconsolable when she heard that, she was hyperventilating and was telling Grace that she was wrong.
Abby bit her lip. She could feel the pain in Iris’s voice and how she was in despair. Her heart was hurt for her.
Aliana, on the other hand, fell to her knees, her whole body was trembling when she heard the death of one of the babies. It was only a few days ago when they celebrated the fact Iris was having twin, how it ran in the alpha’s bloodline and the babies were the proof they were the alpha’s even before they were born.
How it was an internal joke for Aliana and Iris’s personal warriors that the babies mocked the people in the Howling Wolf pack to think their luna couldn’t give the alpha an heir.
