Chapter 917: YOU WILL BE IN CHARGE

Cane watched everything when he heard Iris rushed toward the fighting scene, his heart skipped a beat when he saw she was already very close to the battle, but then Lil Thing stopped and he watched the most amazing thing that had ever happened in his life.

This was not the first time Cane witnessed Iris used her power in this way, in fact, he was the first person, who experienced the first hand how painful it was when she squeezed your spirit.

However, right at that time, he knew how amazing the woman he was with. The mother of his children. How strong she became right now, but even with that fact, it didn’t mean Cane would stop worrying about her. He would always be worried about her.

"Never do it again," Cane said in stern voice, he nibbled on the tip of her nose, but when she didn’t reply, he lifted his head and looked at her blue eyes.

"I can’t promise you that." Iris raised her hand and caressed his face. His hair needed to have a cut, since it had grown so long. "You know that with my power I can make things way easier for you."

"I don’t want you to get involved." Cane knew if he used Iris, he would get some tasks done way easier and more effective, but he couldn’t see her like that. He was not sure since when he counted her out of his calculative plan, because surely enough he didn’t have this feeling in the beginning.

"Cane, you know that you can count on me now. I am not helpless and I can help you."

"You are pregnant."

Iris wanted to laugh, what kind of excuse was that. She lifted her head slightly and kissed the tip of his nose. "I am well aware about that, but thank you for reminding me."

"Don’t be sarcastic with me."

"Cane." Iris cupped his face. She knew how much he was worried about her and their babies and losing their children still left fresh wound in their memories, after all, it happened less than a year ago. "No matter how much you tried to protect me, we ended up losing our babies too."

Cane grimaced. They didn’t talk about this often, because it left them with more agony after the conversation.

"You said it yourself that sometime, the best defence is an attack." Iris’s voice was as gentle as the wind. "We have tried to shield me and our babies from our enemies, but it didn’t work, maybe we need to think in different way of how to protect ourselves and the babies. For as long as our enemies still stand, there is no place we can call as safe."

Iris could see that Cane understood what she was saying, but it was still hard for him to let Iris got involved actively. Having her within the campsite during this journey already counted as Cane took a few steps back and suppressed his ego to put her out of harm way.

"Cane, I will not do something recklessly and put our children in danger."

Cane cared for their children, but above that, he didn’t want her to get hurt. He would love their children, but if something happened to Iris...

He buried his face against the crook of her shoulders, breathing in her scent to calm his nerves. "No charge forward into danger without any discussion with me. This is the deal, there is no discussion."

Iris hugged his big body. "Okay," she agreed readily.

Once again, Cane relented to her wish and let her got more involved. In the end of the day, Cane also realized he wouldn’t put aside Iris completely when this war was about her too.

The sudden attack was completely a stupid move. Vincent, the gamma of the pack, who became the leader because of the absent of the alpha and the beta didn’t expect what Iris was capable of doing.

His aimed was to get Cane’s supply, because famine had plagued their pack since two months ago, he thought sudden attack would be the best option, the first warriors would manage to keep their enemy busy, while the second warriors would be able to sneak into their food storage.

However, with two group of warriors were being caught, Vincent couldn’t do anything, but to open the gate to the pack.

They couldn’t afford any battle, since their best warriors were being caught and they didn’t have a way to survive if they had to isolate themselves. The famine had ruined this pack and their hope to get any help from the Capital City, had long been shattered. That place was in lock down in the last report he received. Something weird was going on there.

"Cane... these people..." Iris stared at the people in the Golden Light pack member. They looked at Cane’s entourage in fear. They were afraid something would happen to them that these people would harm them.

Cane glanced, he didn’t need to look at it closely to know what happened. "Alpha Dex seemingly had abandoned his own pack and took half of his warriors to make a stronghold in the Red Claw pack. They left behind the weaker people."
