Cane could tell there was something more when it came to Rei. This man full of bullshit and mystery, which unfortunately, it was hard to discover.
"You need to stop this," Rei said. He looked fine now, even though a few second ago he was greatly wounded by Cane. His healing ability was insane. "I am not your enemy. I am here to help you to destroy Decratic. If you kept attacking me, do you think you can do it without me? Look around and you will know."
This time, Rei talked to Cane. He hated the sight of how he put his hand around Iris’s waist. He wanted to cut his hand off. But, he couldn’t do it now. There would be the right time to do so.
"You are still very much alive. Stop whining and tell me what is your plan," Cane replied, he didn’t feel an ounce of sympathy. He acted like what he had done was no more than a slap on the wrist.
Rei looked very upset, but he masked it very well. If that was how Cane wanted to act, he would follow suit.
Right at that time, something white rushed toward them, Rei would have knocked to the side if he didn’t dodge it in time and this big fur ball made a bee line toward Iris.
"Lil Thing!" Iris was happy to see this lazy bear. It seemed, it had gone through rough fight against the monster. It would have covered in blood and dust if it was not for the rain that kept pouring down.
Iris was grateful Lil Thing was alright. She hugged it, while the bear nuzzled her face, wiggling its little, almost non existence, tail.
"We will enter their second fortress," Rei said to get the attention back to him, since from the look of it, no one paid him any mind when this white bear came. "You will not be able to enter the second fortress without my help."
Seeing their current situation, Rei was right. They needed him for his power. They wouldn’t be able to go through these monsters without his power to turn the monster on his side. He controlled them by using illusion.
Meanwhile, if Cane wanted to use the same method, he would need Iris to purify them from dark magic first before he used Lu’s ability to control the monster. But the step where Iris had to purify so many monsters under the black magic that Cane didn’t want to take.
It was already a miracle that their babies were still fine even after everything that Iris went through, probably because the fact their babies were shifter this time, thus they were rather stronger, even when they were still in their mother’s womb.
"You took us to their mines earlier, why can’t you do the same thing now?" Iris glared at him when she asked this question.
Rei shook his head. "You injured me, Na. Remember? I can take you and I through the second fortress, but without any forces, it will only be a suicide move." More so, Rei used his power for something else.
"I am not Na."
Yet, Rei didn’t listen to that. He turned deaf ear whenever Iris corrected him.
"Come, we will go through the second fortress and see what behind it. The monsters under my control will breakthrough soon, I am sure Decratic is behind the second fortress." Rei waved his hand and a dragon landed beside him.
The presence of this gargantuan creature shook the ground and Iris almost lost her balance if it was not for Cane, who steadied her.
"Come with me. I will take you there," Rei said, once again stretched out his hand for Iris.
Cane looked at his gamma. "Take Aliana to the south, you will meet with the other there."
Thankfully, Lil Thing was there, so this white bear could help with Aliana and Ethan. But, it came for Iris, only to be away from her again.
Ethan shifted back into his human form. "Come on, Lil Thing, help me."
Lil Thing whimpered. It nuzzled Iris’s stomach and after a few scratches behind its ear, it went away to follow Ethan.
Rei narrowed his eyes at this creature. He didn’t notice it before, but now he was interested in Lil Thing. "Come with me, Na." Rei shifted his attention back to iris, asking her to take the dragon with him.
However, Iris had different idea, so did Cane.
The alpha shifted into his black beast and Iris naturally climbed on his back, sitting down comfortable, while holding onto its soft fur. She looked like an expert when it came to this.
"You really wanted to make things difficult," Rei said under his breath, as he watched how the black beast dashed forward, using its black wisp to clear the way.
It wouldn’t be too hard for Cane to reach the second fortress if he only needed to dodge the monsters, but the black wisp was needed in order for him not to make a sudden movement to avoid the monster and risked Iris from falling off its back.
It was not as efficient as riding on the dragon’s back, but neither Cane nor Iris wanted to have any interaction with Rei. It would be very stupid of them if they trusted this man, even though they were fighting the same cause.
Above them, the dragon cleared the way, by breathing fire at the monsters in front of the black beast, made it easier for them to go through.
Meanwhile, the pure faction and the monsters under Rei’s control brought up the rear, charged forward toward the second fortress.
Aside from the black beast, you couldn’t see any shifter in sight. All the warriors had retreated and as per Cane’s instruction, they had to stay away from this until further notice.
On the black beast’s back, Iris noticed something moving behind her and when she tilted her head to see what was that, she saw her lizard. It seemed, this lizard had been with Cane and they didn’t notice it.
Iris remembered that the previous Serafim used this lizard during a war against monster too, more than fifty years ago, thus its presence right now would be help them.
Iris grimaced, she felt like she wanted to vomit. She was not afraid of spider, but after all of this, she was sure, she would develop this fear. She felt like they were crawling on her skin. freeωebnovēl.c૦m
