Two lights, a flicker of red eyes when he stared at his own reflection on the mirror and auburn color that reminded him of dusk sky.
Leane’s voice sounded so far, everything felt unreal, but lucid at the same time.
He was holding a baby. Aliana just gave birth to a baby boy and Ethan looked so happy, as they had been struggling for a long time.
"I am a father now! I am a father!" Ethan looked so happy, he actually jumped up and down and announced it to the entire pack.
Everyone laughed at his antics. Everyone looked very happy.
But, something didn’t sit right with Cane. Once again, he looked at his reflection in the mirror and found that strange red eyes stared back at him. It didn’t last for long, almost like he actually didn’t see it.
Cane stared at his reflection for a long time. He was holding the baby in his arms and when the baby stopped crying, he immediately checked on him.
"What happened?" Leana asked, but Cane simply shook his head.
He didn’t know why the first thing that came to his mind when the baby stopped crying was the thought the baby was dead.
"Father, let’s play!" Ezga pulled Cane’s cloak. He was smiling at him. He had black eyes and black hair, just like him. A healthy and an active little boy, who was the apple in his eyes.
His little boy shifted for the first time a few months ago and Cane was there to help him going through the process, assured him that everything would be alright, that he was there to guide him every step of the way.
This was a bonding time between a shifter with their cub.
He was so proud of him, still, it didn’t feel right....
============================
"I don’t get it." Joel came to Jace on the morning they supposed to leave to Celestial Moon pack. "You bring Zale with you, but you left me behind? What is the reason beta Jace?"
They said he was too young for this mission and he was needed to stay behind, but then they brought Zale with them.
Zale was literally only twelve years old, thirteen probably, because he didn’t remember when he was born.
"There is a reason for that," Jace replied. He couldn’t disclose what the reason was.
In Joel’s logic, he was right. Zale was too young for this mission, but Zale was also one of Iris’s protectors, where they were sure he would be needed at some point. There was a reason for him to be her protector.
More so, that brat would follow them if they left him behind. He had proven it twice. Unless they tied him up, he would come no matter what they said.
"What is the reason?" Joel tried to understand. He really wanted to go.
Jace looked at him in the eyes. "I can’t say it, Joel. But, I truly need you here. Please, take care of my sister. I am not sure if she actually listened, but there is a chance she will sneak around and follow us. I need you to pay close attention to her. Can you do that for me?" Jace was true to what he said. "I need our people to look over everything and you are the right person to do so."
Joel was not thrilled to be left behind, but he accepted the assignment and agreed to it in the end, since he didn’t have any other option. No matter what, Jace was still the beta. He was the one, who made the final say.
Meanwhile, Ethan had his final moment with Aliana.
The gamma promised her that he would return. He would come to her and everything would be alright. He promised that he would be alive.
"I will keep my promise," Ethan said, as he kissed her goodbye.
For Abby, she would stay with Aliana and the other, because of her condition. Even though she was needed in this journey and her divine power and her knowledge could be any of help, she was heavily pregnant, this would slow them down immensely.
More so, Iris’s four protectors held divine power like her, thus her absent could be compromised.
"Don’t you want to wish me luck?" Lou asked Nala, who was staring at him, while he grabbed a small pouch that filled with magic stones. The magic stones from the Howling Wolf pack’s mines just arrived yesterday morning. "A passionate kiss will be nice."
Nala rolled her eyes, but she walked toward the merchant and gave him a passionate kiss that he wanted. "Don’t die."
"Why? Because you will need to find another man to rely on?"
Nala growled at him. He was right, but seriously, shouldn’t he say it out loud? This man was insufferable. "Yes. That’s why don’t die."
"Well. Let’s see what I can do." Lou pinched her chin. "Did you sleep with another man while I am away?"
Lou knew that she slept with Kian before, but it was because he ordered her to get close to him, but he would be pissed if she did it without his knowledge.
"No." Nala looked offended.
"Not even with Sabian?"
Nala widened her eyes. Sabian was so old, she wondered if he could get up even if she was crazy and insane enough to entertain him.
Seeing her reaction, Lou laughed out loud. "Sabian had ’it’ cut." He joyfully informed her. freewebnøvel.com
