Nancy nodded silently. She felt a little moved. 'Charles is so thoughtful and he's so nice to Sheryl," she thought to herself.
"Mr. Lu, are you sure you don't want to rest first?" asked Nancy.
"No. I've got something to deal with at the company. And I won't be coming home for dinner. Please tell Sher," Charles answered. After that, Charles headed upstairs.
Nancy watched as he headed upstairs and sensed something was wrong. 'Why do I sense something wrong? Are they fighting again?' Nancy thought to herself. 'They have to ask me to relay messages to one another, but Charles really seems to care about Sher. But, he doesn't want to let her know? This is so confusing.'
When Sheryl sent Clark and Shirley to school, she also apologized to the teacher for failing to pick them up the day before. After that, she headed to work.
Just as she was getting in her car, she received a phone call from Phoebe.
"Ms. Xia, please come to the hospital now! Lancy is on the top of the building. It looks like she wants to kill herself!" Phoebe said anxiously.
Sheryl was surprised when she heard this. 'What on earth is she trying to do again?' Sheryl thought to herself.
She quickly said, "Phoebe, ask someone to stop her. Wait for me."
"No! We can't do anything! Ms. Xia, I'm so scared!" Phoebe sounded like she was about to cry—her voice was shaking and she was choking out sobs.
"What happened? Why? Calm down. Speak slowly, Phoebe," Sheryl said, trying to comfort Phoebe. She grabbed her keys and started the car.
"Lancy's on the roof right now. She's standing on the edge as if she's going to jump!" Phoebe was still sobbing.
Sheryl felt like her heart was going to jump out of her body any minute.
'Is Lancy really planning on killing herself?' she thought to herself.
"Did you call the police? Call the police right now!" Sheryl said nervously. She slammed her foot on the gas pedal.
"Yes, we already did. The police is here but Lancy said that she wants to see you," Phoebe said.
"Alright, I'll be right there in a minute. Tell Lancy to wait for me," Sheryl said. Then she hung up the phone and stepped on the gas. The car sped off.
However, she got stuck in the morning rush. There was heavy traffic everywhere.
"Damn it!" Sheryl cursed, stuck in traffic. If she could, she would've abandoned her car and ran to the hospital on feet. Phoebe made sure to update her by calling her every now and then. However, it only made Sheryl more anxious.
Just as Sheryl was about to arrive at the hospital, she received a call from Peterson.
"Ms. Xia, I heard Cloud Advertising Company's in the clear now? But that you're dealing with a new crisis?" Peterson said, as if he was suspicious of Sheryl.
"What are you trying to say, Peterson?" Sheryl said. Just as soon as the words left her mouth, she immediately realized that Peterson was referring to Lancy wanting jump off the roof of the hospital.
Sheryl wouldn't have guessed that the news would reach Peterson that quickly.
"You have no idea, do you?" Peterson said, "The model your company hired. Lancy or something? She was injured because of the incident. Now she wants to jump off the roof because of what your company did to her. Everyone knows and everyone's watching. Reporters and journalists are there to get the latest news."
"What? How did that happen?" Sheryl said, surprised. 'How do these journalists know already? The police just arrived and the reporters are already there? How did the news reach them that fast?' Sheryl thought to herself.
"Ms. Xia, I suggest that you do whatever you can to make this model happy. Do whatever she asks. You have to do it as soon as possible and you have to do it privately. If she jumps, then you'll be in great trouble," Peterson said seriously, like he was warning her.
Sheryl knew what he meant so she said, "Don't worry, Peterson. I will deal with it. I'm on my way to the hospital."
"You better be. We didn't report on the incident yesterday because Mr. Lu pulled some strings. You got lucky yesterday but today, this is different. Everyone's watching you. If that model jumps off that building, everyone's going to know. So if you don't handle this the way you should, you'll be in trouble," Peterson warned.
"I get it, thank you," Sheryl responded.
After Sheryl hung up the phone, she sat on the car stunned.
