The Beauty and the Brain by Natalie Jones novel Chapter 146

Chapter 146

Olive wore a well-fitted suit, exuding the elegance of a mature woman, revealing her sexiness and beauty. Behind her followed Shirley, who wore a white long dress, looking angelic and stunningly beautiful.

William immediately stood up, walked over, and hugged Olive, “Olive! You finally made it! Such a big swagger!”

Olive covered her mouth and laughed, “Mr. Lindsey, don’t tease me, where did I get any swagger from?”

Shirley approached and gently shook hands with William, “Mr. Lindsey, nice to meet you.”

William also smiled and shook hands with her. The group greeted each other warmly, as if they couldn’t see Marie and Sasha at all, completely ignoring the

two of them.

The secretary brought the contract and placed it in front of them. Marie flipped through the contract, turned to William, and asked, “What does this mean, Mr. Lindsey?”

William smiled at Marie and asked, “Ms. Spence, what do you mean by ‘you’?”

Marie flipped open the contract, pointed to the first page, tapped her finger on the table, making a muffled knocking sound, and asked, “What does it mean. that Sasha plays the second female lead?”

William hadn’t spoken yet, and Olive, sitting across from Marie, laughed and said, “Marie, can’t you read? The contract says ‘second female lead,’ which means exactly what it says.”

Marie smiled and looked up at Shirley across from her, saying, “If I’m not mistaken, the female lead role of Amelie Lansing is for Ms. Raleign, right?”

Shirley looked at Olive without speaking, completely following Olive’s lead at

that moment.

Olive opened her contract, turned it around, and handed it to Marie, saying, “It’s written in black and white, you can see for yourself.”

On the first page, it clearly stated that Shirley played the female lead, Amelie Lansing!

Marie slammed the contract on the table with a whack and looked at William, her eyes cold and fierce. “Mr. Lindsey, are you joking with me? You said Sasha would play the leading role in this movie, and now it’s changed to Shirley?”

William rubbed his hands awkwardly and said, “Ms. Spence, you might have misunderstood. I never confirmed that Sasha would play the leading role. Maybe the staff conveyed the message incorrectly? I apologize for any confusion.”

Marie sneered, “Mr. Lindsey, do you think I’m a child? We’re both

businesspeople, so let’s be straightforward. What price did Olive offer you that made you so decisively choose Shirley?”

William felt a bit embarrassed and glanced at Olive. Olive immediately said, “Marie, we got our roles based on our abilities. It’s pointless for you to pester endlessly like this!”

Marie laughed, “How could it be ‘pester endlessly’? I also want to learn from

you how to snatch roles from others. After all, last time Shirley’s tax evasion

scandal was well-known, yet you were able to convince Mr. Lindsey to let her

play the leading role in the movie. I wonder what methods you used?”

“Marie Spence! What do you mean? What can I do?” Olive said, a bit frustrated and upset.

Marie smiled and raised her eyebrows at Olive, “Olive, why are you so agitated? You didn’t really use any shady methods, did you?”

After pausing for two seconds, Marie smacked her lips and said, “Really?

Weren’t

you always hoping to marry into a New York noble family? I thought you were always very careful to keep your hands clean.”

“Shut up!” Olive had already stood up, her hands on the table, leaning forward, looking like she was about to fight with Marie.

“Olive, don’t get worked up, I was just saying it casually,” Marie waved her hand, exchanged glances with Sasha, and they both laughed knowingly.

“Olive, sit down, sit down, don’t get upset,” William said, comforting Olive as

he pulled her to sit.

Olive took a few deep breaths and then sat down.

Olive was so worked up because Marie had hit the nail on the head.

She and William were university classmates. Back then, William had already

shown interest in her, but Olive had always been nonchalant, leading him on.

It wasn’t until these recent years, when William had become successful in his

career and established a firm foothold in New York’s high society, that Olive gradually warmed up to him.

She had been in the entertainment industry for so many years that she was no longer an inexperienced little girl. This time, she simply went out with William a few times, and he was completely won over by her. He gave her the

endorsement for an international cosmetics brand and also gave the role to

Shirley.

William gently patted Olive’s back, feeling sorry for her, and sat back down in his seat. He looked at Marie with some displeasure and said, “Ms. Spence, this is where you’re wrong. Olive is your sister after all, how could you speak to her

like that?”

Before Marie could speak, Sasha laughed and said, “Excuse me, Mr. Lindsey, in what capacity are you lecturing my boss? As a collaborator? You might not be able to achieve this collaboration anymore. If it’s as Olive’s boyfriend, you should be just like me, quiet and well-behaved. The Spence family’s affairs can be handled by themselves.”

Normally, Sasha would never say anything to offend a producer or director due

to their cautious nature. However, this time, Sasha knew that the

collaboration was doomed because of Marie’s personality.

“Sasha, what are you saying?” As soon as Shirley saw Sasha speak, she

immediately spoke up in support of Olive.

Marie’s gaze was sharp as a knife as she looked at Shirley, “Did Sasha say anything wrong? Or do I need to spell it out to you? The Spence family’s affairs are none of your business!”

Shirley looked at Marie with fear in her eyes, shrank her neck, and didn’t dare

to speak.

Olive gave Marie an impatient glance and said, “Now Mr. Lindsey’s intentions.
