The Beauty and the Brain by Natalie Jones novel Chapter 211

Chapter 211

Gavin sighed and said, “Old Mr. Spence had passed away, and Marie came to see you right after the funeral. So many things happened over so many days, and I don’t know what’s happening in the Spence family! I

heard that Old Mr. Spence had given all his shares to Noel, which was more than enough for the people over

there to kick Marie out of the house!”

Dennis narrowed his eyes and commented coldly, “It’s not certain who will kick who out!”

Gavin frowned and replied, “Your injuries haven’t healed yet. If you go back so rashly, your body won’t be able

to take it.”

Cullen also advised, “Mr. Whitney, it’s better to let your body heal first, then only return to New York. A few

days won’t make a difference.”

Dennis nodded. Gavin glanced at him again and said, “It’s been two days. You don’t have any plans to meet

Clayton?”

Dennis closed his eyes and answered, “Let’s talk about it later.”

Gavin sighed and left the ward with Cullen.

Dennis leaned against the hospital bed. It was not that he did not want to see Clayton, but he did not know

how he should meet the latter. They were against each other on the matter of Marie. Even if Clayton was

trying to protect him, the way the former treated Marie was too odious. She became very sensitive

emotionally recently. It would seem as if he thought of her injury as nothing if he hastily met Clayton,

That day, Marie did not go to Dennis’ ward anymore. She was doodling on how to explain those messy things.

In the evening, the door of Marie’s ward was pushed open, and Dennis walked in. She was stunned for a

second and asked, “Why are you here?”

Dennis replied with a hurtful expression, “Since you don’t come to see me, I’ll have to come to you myself.”

Marie jumped out of bed and helped Dennie lie on the bed. She said, “Didn’t Gavin say you’re not allowed to walk around? If you want to see me, just let Cullen inform me.”

Dennis laid down properly on Marie’s bed and leaned against the headboard, saying, “I don’t want Cullen to

look for you. I hope you will come to me yourself. Marie, you’re avoiding me.”

Sitting on the edge of the bed, Marie lowered her head, stared at the floor, and retorted, “No, I’m not avoiding

you…”

Dennis held Marie’s hand and asked, “Is there anything you want to tell me?”

Marie nestled in a chair then glanced at Dennis and nodded. She answered unflinchingly, “I’m Rose.”

Dennis beckoned. “I got it.”

Marie lowered her head and continued, “Don’t you have any questions for me?”

Dennis smiled and asked, “Was it you at the cyber cafe?”

Marie nodded. “Yes, it’s me,”

“Were you the one behind the collaboration confidential information leakage incident of Terry Group?”

Marie nodded again. “Yes.”

“What about the sniper in Witton Manor?”

“It’s me.”

“During the coastal warehouse cut-off operation, there was a sniper…”

“That was also me.”

Every time Dennis asked a question, Marie nodded, then lowered her head even more. In the end, she almost

dropped her head to the ground.

Dennis chuckled and said, “Are you going to suffocate yourself by pressing your head against your chest? But

you seem to have a flat chest…”

Marie was speechless. You’ve got a flat chest! Your whole family is flat-chested!

Dennis held Marie’s hand and expressed, “What are you afraid of? Didn’t you say awe-inspiringly at the

stronghold that an international female assassin had retired from the underworld and fallen in love with the

domineering CEO? Could it be I, the domineering CEO, disappoint you so much? Would I abandon you if I

knew the truth?”

Marie raised her head, glimpsed at Dennis, shook her head, and responded, “No, I believe you. You won’t

abandon me.”

Dennis smiled and asked, “Then tell me, what are you afraid of?”

“I’m… terrified that Rodger Group…” Marie hesitated and continued, “In the end, I must go back and take revenge. I will also come face-to-face with Rodger Group. I’m afraid you will be in danger later on if you get

involved…”

Marie peeked at Dennis’s face worriedly. She was fearful that he would be angry because of her words.

Dennis stroked Marie’s hair and questioned, “Am I that weak in your heart?”

Marie lowered her head and shook her head vigorously. “No! I’m just petrified that you’ll get hurt.”

Dennis chuckled and responded, “It’s my honor to have you care about me, Ms. Spence.”

Marie looked up at Dennis and heaved a sigh of relief after seeing no trace of anger on his face.

Dennis gazed at Marie and querled, “There’s one thing I don’t understand. You’re Rose. Then how did you become Marie Spence?”

Marie hesitated. He finally asked this question. Staring into Dennis’s eyes, Marie replied with a calm face, “I….

should be considered as being reborn…”

It was Dennis’ turn to be dumbfounded. He looked at Marie in a daze and could not react to that answer for a

while. For a moment, he almost felt that she was joking with him.

In Dennis’s perception, there was no such thing as rebirth at all. No one can avoid birth, old age, sickness,

and death. That was the law of nature. If a person could die and come back to life again, the world would be

in chaos.

Marie gritted her teeth. Since she had already said it, she had to finish her words even if she was being

treated as a psycho.

“I’m Rose. I was killed. When I woke up, I was already Marie Spence in the hospital. She fell down the stairs

and was unconscious. Maybe when the doctor gave the notice of critical condition, the real Marie Spence

was already dead, right?” Marie finished speaking in one breath.

Dennis tightened his grip on Marie’s hand and said, “So, you’re Rose’s soul, but you’re living in Marie Spence’s

body? Do you two really look the same?”
