The Beta's Regret (Eden and Eros) novel Chapter 227

(Olivia’s Pov)

I walked quickly along the hallway as I made my way out of my room.

I was excited.

My mother, Rose, and Lord Shevek had caused quite a stir. This was all because of Eden.

I would have never disliked my mother if she hadn't treated Eden like the best daughter.

It was no surprise that I didn't really fancy my sister, Eden. Although I never said it openly, my dislike for her built subtly over the years. It started with the little things that irritated me, like my mother's preference and other little things, until it became undeniable.

Eden was the perfect child.

Beautiful, intelligent, and lovely. It was always impossible to compete with Eden, who was loved by everyone. She had a presence that could never be overlooked, but I, on the other hand, was often overlooked and talked down to.

When Theo, her first mate whom Eden had fallen in love with, rejected her, I felt a thrill in me. In my heart I was glad that she could finally understand what it felt like to be treated as a second option.

In a way, I had hoped that Eden would remain miserable and that I would even find my mate before the moon goddess grants her a second mate— but I was so wrong.

Theo at that time treated her like trash after rejecting her, and just when I thought Eden would never be happy anymore, she met Eros.

Eros was the exact kind of man I desired.

Tall, with piercing eyes and sharp facial features. His hair framed his face perfectly, and the way he carried himself looked like he was already king.

Every time I saw him and Eden together, I always felt jealousy hit my heart as I wished I could be the one by his side.

Eros should have been mine.

I loved Eros, much more than anyone else could imagine, but I had always respected Eden and tried hard to hide the way I felt about my sister’s mate.

But when I found out that we had different fathers and that Eden and I were just stepsisters, I knew that I could finally stop hiding and be unashamed of who I really was.

I thought that maybe if I dressed slutily and try to seduce him when she was in coma, it would make him forget her and I would be Queen… but no, that hybrid was loyal to his mate!

I finally stopped in front of the same room where Rose escaped from a few hours ago. The room was cold and quiet as usual; the only light was hung on one side of the wall, casting a dim glow over the room.

I saw Alpha Theo and my father, Alpha Griffin, stand in front of a table that had been moved into the room, and I went to stand before him.

Alpha Theo turned to me and smiled. “You did good.”

I nodded.

On the table, the almost lifeless body of Lord Shevek and my mother lay before me. The smell of blood that hung in the air mixed with wolfsbane was so strong it couldn’t be ignored.

I felt guilt prick me. Deep down I knew I shouldn't have harmed my mother or been a part of this. But my desire to become queen was too great to ignore.

With a quiet voice, I asked. “Are they dead?”

My father made a low growl. “Almost as good as dead. As long as we keep them this way, they will slowly die off.”
