The Beta's Regret (Eden and Eros) novel Chapter 275

Arthur was the last person I expected to see in a dungeon where Pison’s rejected concubines are kept for his warriors' amusement.

I stayed rooted on the spot, unable to move. One part of me wanted me to hide, while another part was still shocked that Arthur had finally exposed himself after betraying Eros.

Arthur avoided my gaze, looking away as I kept my eyes on him while his men came to my side and pulled me to my feet.

I was tired, hungry and needed a break.

I couldn’t even put up a fight and just allowed his men to pull me along. I staggered a little and fell to my knees. Without waiting, the warriors roughly pulled me to my feet, bruising my skin.

I winced in pain and growled low.

“Be careful.” Arthur barked out.

The men bowed slightly and continued moving along.

Soon, we were in the main halls. As we passed through the hallway, I noticed that all the warriors or maids who passed by, stopped to greet Arthur and gave him their respects.

It was obvious that he had a very high rank and was highly regarded in the palace.

I scoffed. Was the greed for power greater than his friendship with Eros? I didn’t ask out loud. I kept my questions to myself.

Finally, I was pulled to a stop in front of Arthur's chamber.

The door was pushed open and I was thrown inside. I stumbled to a heap on the floor letting out a strangled cry.

Arthur followed behind.

“Leave us,” Arthur commanded.

The men exchanged looks of surprise, but said nothing as they filed out one after the other.

Arthur moved closer, and squatted. He released a deep sigh before he cupped my face in his hands. I moved my face away, but he pulled it back and forced me to stay still even as I struggled.

“You should relax,” Arthur said firmly.

I rolled my eyes at him and spat on the floor in disgust.

“To hell with you.” I said.

Arthur's eyes thinned as he glared at me. He said nothing for a few moments before he finally stood up and walked to the side.

There was a short knock on the door, and Arthur answered.

“Come in.”

The door opened and some maids entered. Arthur quietly excused himself as he allowed the women to clean me up.

I didn't have the strength to complain or think about what they did. I just allowed the women to do their job.

The maids worked fast. And when they were done, they had me dressed in a beautiful blue dinner gown, and styled my hair into some simple hairdo.

I had no idea what I looked like, as the women didn't bother to put me in front of a mirror, but from the satisfaction on their faces, I knew I looked better than before.
