Cassie.
“I know you… you visited me in the hospital, didn’t you?”
“Awww… you aren’t supposed to remember that. I didn’t want to do this.”
“Remember this… don’t come looking for me… you never recognized me… and stay away from Kayden Steele.”
“Then I will leave you alone. You will be safe from me, so long as you promise to do the things I just said.”
Then… darkness.
I slowly open my eyes, scared of what I will find.
Was I kidnapped?
Was I raped? Molested?
Will I be able to go back to my son?
Oh God! I will only ask for my life for my son. Nothing else.
“There she is,” I hear a female’s voice say.
I find myself staring at a beautiful redhead. I recognize her as the woman who’s grinding her ass on Ethan.
‘What the hell? What is she doing here? Who is she?’
I sat up, but the redhead holds me by my shoulder, pushing me back to the couch.
“Easy there,” she says. “You’ll fall dizzy.”
“It’s okay, sweetheart,” I hear Ethan’s familiar voice say. “I’m here."
The redhead moves away and Ethan takes her place to sit in the chair beside mine.
“Where are we?”
“We are in Amber’s office. She owns this club,” Ethan replies.
No wonder she seems used to grinding her ass on the dance floor.
“Don’t let that fool you, though,” Amber says, with a frown on her face. “I’m also a licensed doctor.”
Oh! I would not have guessed that.
“What happened to me? I thought… I was kidnapped.”
“We wanted to know from you. I found you sleeping on couch seating outside the bar. What do you mean you thought you were kidnapped.”
“There was a man,” I reply. “I followed him out. And then he… drugged me, I fell dizzy.”
“Why would you follow him out?” Whether Ethan was jealous or angry, I am not sure from the tone of his voice.
“I thought… I thought I recognized him.”
“And?”
“I was right. He’s the guy who went into the my room in the hospital. He tried to kill me.”
Ethan turns to the Amber. “We’re gonna have to turnover the CCTV footages to the police. I want this guy caught.”
“I’ve already ordered my security team to take care of that.” Amber nods.
Ethan turns to me. “What else did he say?"
“And…”
Do I tell Ethan that the guy told me to stay away from Kayden?
“He told me to stop looking for him, and we’ll be good. He’ll leave me alone.”
“Son of a bitch!” Ethan curses. “He doesn’t get to ask that!
“Of course, he does! That’s what all potential kidnappers say. Don’t bring the police. Come alone. Come on, E, you should watch more TV.” Amber says rolling her eyes.
I cannot help but notice that Amber and Ethan seems close. How long have they known each other?
I feel something uneasy inside my chest. I cannot place it. I somehow feel that I am not going to be a fan of this woman.
“What time is it, anyway?”
“Eight AM,” Ethan replies.
She laughs. “Mine, of course! Ethan would never do anything to hurt you. You should give him more credit than that. Sure, he can break the hearts of many other girls, mine included.” She shakes her head. “But no. He would never do anything to hurt you.”
I can hear a trace of sadness, jealousy and anger in her voice. And even though I should get mad at her for prying, I cannot bring myself to. I actually feel sorry for her. I would be pissed, too, if my boyfriend dumped me for someone else.
Well, wasn’t I so heartbroken when I discovered that Kayden left me for Megan?
Kayden!
I remember he sent me a message. He was asking me to call him. Because if I don’t call, he’ll assume that I have chosen Ethan.
I sigh heavily.
In truth, I shouldn’t care about what Kayden thinks. If he’s disappointed or heartbroken, he deserves it. But then… have I really given up on us? Or do I simply need time to sort out my feelings for him?
Well, for starters, I should text him. I know it’s more than eight hours too late, but I can still try.
I take my phone from the table on the side. I find it turned off, though I do not remember doing so. It must have been low in battery.
“Do you have a charger I can borrow?” I ask Amber.
“I don’t think you need it. Ethan charged it a couple of hours ago.”
“Oh, thank you.” I turn on my phone.
“By the way, that model, Megan Brown? Aren’t you her stepsister or something.”
“Yeah.”
“You should give her a call. Seems congratulations are in order. It’s all over social media.”
“What?”
But Amber simply motions at my phone.
I open socials and scan for Megan’s profile. And there, I see her post:
“I am so happy to share with you a very good news! Finally! He popped the question and I said yes! It’s official! I’m going to be Mrs. Megan Steele!”
After reading that, I dropped my phone to the ground.
