The CEO Gets What He Wants novel Chapter 197

Instead of driving into the courtyard, the black extended Bentley stopped outside of it.

Cayden hadn't come over in his own car.

After parking the vehicle, Xavier hopped down and opened the door behind.

Out came the boss and his two children.

Despite Cayden looking as stern and flawless as always in his suit, upon closer look, one could tell that Cayden appeared more radiant than usual. It seemed like something good had happened to him.

As the man with a faint cologne scent carried Rory in his arms, Zachary ran into the courtyard excitedly while lugging a backpack.

“Hi! Good morning, handsome!” Anna greeted Zachary discreetly.

Coming out here for this trip was totally worth it!

Livingsfill wasn't as bustling as the big city, but she got to see their handsome boss along with his children.

I'm so lucky!

Zachary scanned his surroundings with his large eyes. Although the boy didn't manage to find Avery, he didn't forget his manners. “Good morning, pretty lady.”

The woman instantly beamed with delight.

Among all the coworkers out here, the only one who had the authority to make big decisions was Christopher.

He went up to shake Xavier's hand.

As everyone interacted with each other and invited Xavier to sit down with them for breakfast, a female colleague spotted Cayden making his way to the stairs alone.

Those stairs led to their bedrooms.

Moreover, Cayden held a paper bag in his right hand. It was probably food.

The boss seems to care so much about his cousin's wife.

Indeed, Xavier had driven here before having breakfast. Even the two children had insisted on coming over first thing after waking up.

“What do you feel like eating, Rory? Tell me.” Xavier pointed to some bread and milk with his left hand, whereas his right pointed to bagels and oatmeal.

Rory had a new book in her hand, and she placed it on the table for all the adults to see. “Daddy bought this for me! I can definitely get full marks if I read it,” she exclaimed while eating some oatmeal.

Upstairs, Avery hadn't stirred from the knocking or chattering of her coworkers downstairs. Instead, it was the vibration of her phone that woke her up.

The phone had a strange tendency to switch off on its own. There were times its battery level was at sixty percent, but the low battery sign would still appear before the device turned off.

Avery planned to get a new phone either online or from one of the more reliable stores here in Livingsfill.

For the past two days, whether or not she could answer a call depended purely on her luck.

Upon noticing that an unknown number was calling her, she picked it up, only to hear the voice of Dylan's mother, Talia.

“Hi, Ery. This is Talia, your mother-in-law.”

Avery lay underneath her blanket. “I know who you are. What can I do for you?” she responded courteously.

Talia despised the way Avery sounded polite yet aloof when speaking to her, as if Avery could prove that she had nothing to do with the Musks by speaking in that manner.

“I'll get straight to the point. I heard from my son that you're pregnant with his child. As your mother-in-law and also a fellow woman who has once been pregnant, I just want to remind you to take care of your body while you're carrying a child. Don't work too hard. What are you doing in a small town like that instead of staying behind in Ackleton?” Talia had expected Dylan to return with his wife after he made a trip to Livingsfill.

Yet, her son had come back on his own.

When Talia questioned him, he refused to answer, instead later going out in the middle of the night to drink with his friends until dawn. It was now eight in the morning, so the man had probably just fallen asleep and wouldn't wake up until afternoon came.

Taking her grandchild inside Avery's belly into consideration, Talia knew she had to make this phone call.

Having just woken up, Avery forced herself out of bed while answering her phone, her throat feeling dry and her mind still fuzzy.

She then walked into the bathroom to rinse her mouth. “What child? I'm afraid you may have misunderstood something,” she replied after feeling a little more refreshed.

Before she could elaborate, she heard the delivery man arrive over the phone.

“Just a minute!” Talia could be heard saying.

Avery remained silent as the call remained connected. What is she talking about? Me? Pregnant with Dylan's child? Certainly not.

She had to clear the misunderstanding no matter what.

Back in Ackleton, Talia glanced at her phone while heading to the door. Seeing that Avery had not hung up, she sighed with relief and signed the delivery receipt.

The item was addressed to Avery.

Yet, Talia was probably fearful of her daughter-in-law scheming against her that she opened the envelope immediately.

Inside the envelope was a mere piece of paper.

It was a lab report.

Due to the nature of her work during her younger days, Talia had seen many lab reports in the past. In fact, she had also discovered that she was pregnant with Dylan through a report.

It wasn't just her. Many newly wedded women had also learned of their pregnancies through the same method.

However, after Talia scrutinized Avery's report, the document showed no indication of the latter being pregnant.

Then, as she recalled what Avery had just told her over the phone, realization instantly dawned on Talia.

Dylan had lied to her.

He had deliberately tricked her and Toby into approving of Avery by leveraging a child that didn't even exist.

Meanwhile, in Livingsfill, Xavier received a message stating that a parcel had been delivered successfully.

Upstairs, Avery was still waiting for the opportunity to make herself clear with Talia, only to realize that the latter had hung up on her.

After spacing out in the bathroom for a while, she then glanced at the time. I have to wash up and head down now. My body is aching, but I have work to do.

Putting her phone down, Avery began to wash her face.

Then, while wiping her face with a towel, she suddenly caught a glimpse of a man standing in her room. She was not even sure when he had entered her room.

Cayden put down the paper bag containing breakfast. The food was still warm.

The woman's supple skin, elegant brows, and tender eyes—along with tiny water droplets remaining on her cheeks—made her look so pure. Her lips looked slightly swollen from what Cayden had done to her the night before.

Avery froze as she continued to grip her towel. She knew he would come again, but never had she expected him to reappear so quickly after he had left in his car late last night.

As she remained in a daze, Cayden walked toward her and pulled her into his embrace. Then, he lowered his head to kiss her while closing the bathroom door behind him at the same time.

“Mmm... Ahh...”

It appeared that the fire from the night before had not been put out.

Everything that had transpired began to rouse their senses again, causing both of them to lose their ability to reason.

Cayden continued to obsess over Avery's lips. After last night's breakthrough, the man now felt his love for her bubbling within him. “I love it when you moan like that,” he couldn't help but whisper while biting her ear.
