The CEO's Amazing Ex-Wife Is Back (Thalassa and Kris) novel Chapter 119

Chapter 119

Walking back to his desk, Kris picked up his phone, which he’d nearly forgotten in his earlier haste to see Thalassa.

“Who are you calling?” Alden asked as Kris began tapping tapidly on it.

Kris didn’t respond, dialing a number and bringing the phone to his ear. He drummed his fingers impatiently on the desk as he waited for Smoke to answer.

When the man finally picked up, Kris hissed, “I told you I wanted the report on Clark Morgan immediately, but it’s been five days already.”

Smoke cleared his throat on the other end. “Forgive me, Mt Miller, but my contacts overseas had a hard time searching for information on Morgan.”

Kris’s nostrils flated. “So you don’t have anything yet?”

“No,” Smoke clarified. “I do have something. I’m just trying to explain that–”

“What are you waiting for, then? For me to roll out the red carpet before you come and give me the information?”

“No, sir. I’m just on my way to your office now. I’ll be there in a few minutes.”

“Make it quick,” Kris said, then hung up.

Tossing his phone onto the desk, he began pacing the length of the office. The room was silent, the air thick with tension as Kris kept pacing, glancing at his watch every few seconds.

Finally, there was a knock on the door, and Millie went to open it. Smoke walked in, holding a file, his eyes scanning the serious faces in the room.

“What did you find, Smoke?” Kris questioned, waving him over to start speaking.

Smoke glanced at the visitor’s chair as if considering sitting down, but noticing that everyone else was standing, he decided against it and began his report.

“I discovered that Clark Morgan has been married twice over the past three years while he was in Ireland.” Seconds ticked by until Kris broke the silence, his voice incredulous. “Is that it? That’s all you’ve discovered?” Though he was surprised to learn Clark had been married twice, it wasn’t incriminating, so it felt useless to him. “No, that’s not all,” Smoke quickly added. “My contacts also found some information about another woman he was involved with before these marriages. At first, it all seems innocent enough, but then you start to notice a pattern.”

“What pattern?” Alden asked, leaning forward.

“He met each of these women in support groups. All of them were slightly older than him, all had been admitted to psychiatric hospitals at some point in their lives and were undergoing therapy, all of them seemed to have no family ties, all of them were millionaires, and all of them are dead as we speak.”

Alden’s eyes widened. “Dead? How did they die?”

“Suicide,” Smoke replied. “They all committed suicide, and as their spouse, Clark Morgan inherited everything.” “But he wasn’t in a relationship with the other woman,” Alden pointed out.

“Yes,” Smoke nodded. “But while they were living together, she had a severe episode of psychosis. Before being readmitted to the psychiatric hospital, she gave Clark Morgan power of attorney over her assets. She committed suicide in the hospital, and it turned out she had already made a will leaving everything to him.”

“So he wasn’t satisfied with the millions he got from those women,” Alden noted grimly.

“That’s why he’s now targeting a billionaire,” Millie concluded.

“I knew it. I fucking knew he couldn’t be trusted,” Kris muttered, unsure whether to laugh at being proven right or panic at the thought of such a person being close to Thalassa.

He looked at Alden. “Do you still think that bastard wasn’t behind the sabotage against Thalassa?”

Alden didn’t respond, only shaking his head grimly.
