He could, all on his own, driven by sheer willpower and a relentless obsession, love for more than a decade.
Despite the countless times he was hurt, he never truly let go of her. How could Dorothy ever doubt his sincerity?
That would be an utter betrayal of love!
Everett lifted his hand, gently wiping away her tears.
"Stop crying, Dorothy. I'd do anything for you, and I mean it wholeheartedly." He even pushed a pen into her hand, "Sign it, or we'll miss the courthouse closing time."
"I..."
"Come on! This is me proposing. You can't say no."
Dorothy looked down at the pen in her hand.
After a long moment, she spoke in a hoarse voice, "Everett, you've given me so much, I don't know what I can give you in return."
"Can I make a request, then?"
"Sure, go ahead." Dorothy agreed promptly.
"In this life, the next, and for all eternity, never leave me." Everett curved his lips into a slight smile, pulling her back into his embrace, "And... in our next life, agree to date me from middle school, okay? Read that love letter I'll send you sooner to spare me years of worry."
Dorothy laughed through her tears, "Is that all you aspire to?"
"With a career, kids, and you by my side, that's all the ambition I need."
He wasn't someone with grand desires, after all.
"Alright, I promise! Next life, I'll be the one chasing you. Let's see if the school's heartthrob is really that hard to get."
"Not hard at all. Just ask, and I'll say yes."

When Kevin arrived at Trust-E Investments, he quickly got the lowdown on the situation.
He might not have been familiar with everyone, but he had worked professionally with Nyssa a few times. Although their interactions were brief, Kevin was usually good at reading people.
"Start from the beginning and tell us what happened, without lying or hiding the truth."
Seeing no one believed her, Perdita's temper flared again, "I'm being framed! Don't you understand?"
"Keep it down. You're here to cooperate with the investigation. Whether you're wronged or not will be determined in due course."
"..."
Of course, Perdita wouldn't admit she intended to hit Nyssa first.
Initially, even after arriving at the police station, she didn't realize the extent of trouble she was in.
It was just a push towards Dorothy, how bad could it be?
Until Kevin walked in, his voice grave, "Ms. Sanchez is pregnant."
"Is it Mr. Lopez's child?!"
Kevin nodded, "Of course."
