Being neighbors had its downsides, especially when Miles decided to drop by unannounced. Felicity's parents were all too eager to welcome him, leaving her with no chance to say no.
If she even thought about hiding away, Felicity was sure her mom would not hesitate to use her spare key to barge into her room.
With a sigh, she swung her legs off the bed and reached for her slippers.
On the other end of the phone, Calvin found the whole situation amusing. "In this world, there's actually something that makes Felicity sigh!"
"Of course, there is. I'm not a superhero," Felicity replied, walking towards the door. "Calvin, I've got something to take care of. I'll talk to you later."
"Alright, give me a call when you're free. I'll be waiting!"
"Always so smooth," she muttered before hanging up and opening the door.
Expecting her mom, she was surprised to find Miles standing right there, still in his suit from earlier, looking every bit the impeccable gentleman he was known for.
He was so tall that he almost blocked out the hallway light, resembling a figure from a suspense movie.
"Did I interrupt your chat with your boyfriend?"
Felicity forced a laugh. "Not at all! Is there something you needed, Langston?"
"Yes, I feel like we haven't finished our conversation."
Pretending to be clueless, she asked, "What conversation?"
Miles, seeing right through her, replied sternly, "Would you prefer to discuss this outside or in front of Aunt Karen?"
"Outside!" Felicity said quickly, eager to avoid any family drama.
Miles looked at her, his expression serious, and nodded.
"Why? Why would you want to do that?"
Silence fell between them.
"Langston, it's been a long time. You have a girlfriend now. Do you really want to break up with Esther just because you feel responsible for me, to give closure to whatever happened between us? She's innocent in all this," Felicity said, avoiding his gaze, even though she could see how much Esther meant to him.
And did he not feel the same about her? She kept that question to herself.
Miles seemed at a loss for words, his emotions visibly conflicted.
Felicity then asked, her voice soft but firm, "Let me ask you this, Miles. Do you love me? I mean, in the way a man loves a woman, not just liking someone. Is that part of your reason for wanting to marry me?"
