At the start of the year, Craig had been toying with the idea of starting his own delivery business.
He had managed to save up a decent sum, enough to consider not sinking it all into a mortgage.
Craig was well aware that driving trucks wasn't going to cut it for him in the long run.
But gathering the seed money he needed was going to take time!
Then Aurora came into his life unexpectedly...
Making the whole buy-a-house-and-settle-down plan a bit more urgent. His calculations had to be redone.
Now, all his plans, all his considerations for the future, seemed like a big joke!
His life savings of over a decade probably couldn't match what Aurora spent on lattes in a month.
The gap between them was daunting. If it were smaller, Craig might not have been so hung up on breaking up. But it was just too wide.
"You're being emotional now, but you'll regret this later."
"Why would I regret it?"
"..."
"As long as you promise that you'll love only me, treat only me well, I'll never regret it! Even if my parents don't give me a dime, and my brother doesn't care, I can earn my own living! Together, as a married couple, we'll work hard and surely live a better life."
What she wanted was him, not his financial status.
"Your parents raised you, knowing you're marrying down would hurt them."
"Not at all! My mom always told me, as long as I'm happy and feel loved, that's enough! You haven't met my parents, haven't spent time with them, that's why you say such things." Aurora pouted, "Their love story would keep you up all night!"
Seeing Craig silent again, she was truly disappointed.
Head bowed, her voice hoarse, Aurora said, "I've said everything I could. Last time, I swore never to bend again, and yet here I am, breaking my word, Craig, I'm at my wit's end—do you really want to force my hand?"
Her previous words were touching, but this sudden twist caught Craig off guard.
"Force your hand?"
Except letting her eat too much candy.
He frowned, "Is this a threat?"
"Yeah, you can see it that way."
Since he wouldn't budge.
She had to play hardball.
"Aurora, you keep saying I saved your life, and now you're threatening your savior like this?"
"I offered myself to you, and you didn't want that, did you?"
Finally, she let go of Craig and pulled out her phone, "I'm calling my dad now!"
"Stop!"
