Dorothy was always fretting about her son's awkwardness around girls, worried he wouldn't know how to express himself.
But with Felicity willing to chat, Dorothy couldn't hide her joy.
"Alright, you two have a chat! Don't worry, I'm here, so that little rascal can't bully you."
As Dorothy opened the study door and passed by Miles, she gently cautioned, "Don't be too eager, or you might scare away my future daughter-in-law!"
"…I know, Mom."
After leaving, Dorothy made sure to close the door behind her.
Then, she quickly shot a text to Karen, [Felicity's at Bay Residence. If the chat doesn't go well, Langston will drive her home. But if it does, she might just become part of the family!]
Soon after, a thumbs-up emoji popped up in response.
[Tell Langston to give it his all. I'm rooting for him!]
…
Now, it was just the two of them left in the study.
Despite having been intimate before, Felicity found herself unexpectedly shy.
She kept her head down, silent.
The sound of Miles sighing broke the quiet.
"Felicity, I heard what you were discussing with my mom earlier."
"Why were you eavesdropping?"
"I was worried," he admitted, stepping closer to take her hand gently in his, "I finally understand your concerns. You think I've been pressuring you into marriage, not out of love, but just to take responsibility, right?"
Felicity didn't speak, but she nodded.
"How could that be? Just because I'm not very experienced with women doesn't mean I want to marry any girl. If you weren't in my heart, I wouldn't have touched you."
If he were the type to easily succumb to desire, how could he, nearly thirty, have only had a couple of nights' experience?
Though his words lacked romantic flair or solemn promises, she knew each sentence was an undeniable truth.
"Do you love me? In the romantic sense."
"Of course, I do." Miles raised his hand to caress her cheek, his gaze fixed intently on her, "How could I be jealous if I didn't?"
"…"
"Knowing you went out with Calvin drove me crazy!" He couldn't bear to stay at the office for a moment longer!
If the registry office was open, Miles would have whisked her away to get married on the spot!
To keep any other men from coveting her.
Felicity pouted, "You know what it's like to be jealous, but do you understand how I felt seeing you holding Esther's hand?"
"I do! I promise, from now on, my hands are only for holding yours."

Why didn't Jeffrey call Everett from the office? Lock his door instruct security to not let anyone in and speak to Everett on the phone? Or send him a text giving him a quick summary of what's up and that he's on his way over. That way when he runs into Heather on his way out he informs her Everett already knows....
