After a day's grind at the office, as the clock was ticking towards quitting time, Felicity got a call from her mom, Karen, which was a surprise.
"Felicity!"
"Mom?"
She was quite taken aback.
Her mother rarely reached out at this hour, usually preferring to send a text on WhatsApp to check if she was busy before calling.
"Yep, I need to talk to you about something." Karen chuckled, "Your dad, he bought a house over in Anglonia. Thought it might be a good idea for you to move there."
"Why on earth did dad suddenly decide to buy a house here?"
"Well... um... it's like this. Someone owed him money and couldn't pay up, so they settled it with the house."
Good thing Karen had thought this through in advance, anticipating what her daughter might ask. Otherwise, she might have given herself away.
"Alright, send me the address! I'll check it out on my day off. If the location works, I'll move."
It was perfect timing for Felicity, who had been considering moving out from the place she shared with Calvin.
Before things were out in the open, she never thought much of Calvin's flirty comments. But knowing he was serious made continuing to live together a bit awkward.
"Great!" Karen was pleasantly surprised at how amenable her daughter was.
She had prepared a bunch of reasons which she didn't even need to use.
Just as they were about to hang up, Felicity suddenly asked, "Mom, do you know any... highly skilled OB-GYNs?"
"An OB-GYN?"
"Nevermind, it's nothing. I better get back to work, mom."
After putting down her phone, Felicity's gaze returned to the data on her screen, but suddenly, it all blurred...
Looking down, a tear had unexpectedly fallen onto her desk, making her realize she was crying.
It turned out, no matter how busy she kept herself at work, she couldn't stop the memories and the pain.
Felicity quickly wiped her tears with a tissue, hoping to avoid anyone noticing her reddened eyes.
Sure enough, as soon as it was time to leave, a WhatsApp message from Miles popped up.
"Not mad anymore?"
Felicity blinked, "I wasn’t mad!"
It was then she remembered the incident with the roses.
As they got into the car, she sneakily glanced at his profile before asking, "Langston, what about that bouquet of roses?"
"Threw it away."
Miles's response was immediate.
Her eyes widened, "Really? You threw them away?"
Flowers here were expensive! A bouquet that large must have cost a pretty penny.
Felicity felt a twinge of regret.
"Felicity, if you like, I can buy you flowers, way more than what Calvin did!"
