Miles threw off the duvet and slid into his slippers, ready to head out without a second glance back at her.

His movements were swift, but just as he stood up, his tall frame wobbled.

"Hey, watch out!"

Felicity's concern overpowered her, and she reached out instinctively to steady him, blurting out, "Didn't you just have surgery for a peptic ulcer? Why on earth are you drinking?"

"I'm fine."

He didn't directly address her question. Once he regained his balance, he dropped his arms, putting some distance between them, "Thanks for the concern, I'm outta here."

The sound of someone else in the house startled her, and Karen emerged from the master bedroom.

Spotting her daughter in the living room, she rubbed her eyes in disbelief, "Felicity?!"

"Mom."

"What are you... doing back?" Karen smacked her forehead, remembering, "Oh! Is Langston still in your room?! He had a few drinks with your dad earlier, and I saw he dozed off, so I had your dad help him to your room to lie down for a bit."

She hadn't expected her daughter to come home in the middle of the night!

Felicity massaged her temples, equally surprised by the night's unexpected turn of events.

"It's okay, Langston's already left."
