Felicity was lost in a sea of confusion as she listened to him. But from the urgency in his voice, she could tell the situation was serious.
After thinking it over, she finally asked, "You and Ms. Sanchez, you caught the same bug?"
Miles let out a resigned chuckle and ruffled Felicity's hair. "You're running a fever. Just go back to bed and rest."
"..."
"Anything you feel like eating? I can pick it up for you on my way back."
"No," she shook her head, "I've lost my appetite. It's not just me being polite."
"Alright, I understand."
Miles drove off, picking up some candied fruits and all of Felicity's favorite snacks from before.
He also filled her fridge with fruits and vegetables. It was too empty; a clear sign she hadn't been eating well and was just getting by.
When he got back, the room was silent.
Miles quietly pushed open the door to find her asleep. She was still sick, her breathing heavy and her brows furrowed.
He reached out to check her forehead, which was still hot.
Perhaps it was the coolness of his hand, having just come in from outside, but Felicity found comfort in it and, in her sleep, nestled her hand into his palm. It was so small, he could easily enclose it completely.
Finally, a smile appeared on Miles' face. It was a rare sight these days.
...
In the guest room, Everett was uncomfortable in every possible way.
When had he ever had to stay in someone else's guest room?
He'd rather be in a hotel!
"Just bear with it. We're here for Langston and Felicity, not on vacation," Dorothy told him, knowing her husband's quirks all too well after so many years of marriage.
Stepping out, she saw Miles coming from Felicity's bedroom.
Lowering her voice instinctively, she asked, "How is she?"
"Febrile again, just took some medicine and fell asleep."
"Then, please, take good care of Felicity," she approached her son, her voice soft, "No matter what happens between you two, Felicity will always be your sister. Even if... your father and I are wrong, our families' relationship shouldn't change!"
"I know."
Miles' gaze inadvertently drifted back towards Felicity's bedroom. "She'll always be the one I cherish the most."
Yet, if all their suspicions were wrong...
Someday, Felicity would marry, whether it be Calvin or someone else, and it wouldn't be him.
What role would he play in her life then?

Why didn't Jeffrey call Everett from the office? Lock his door instruct security to not let anyone in and speak to Everett on the phone? Or send him a text giving him a quick summary of what's up and that he's on his way over. That way when he runs into Heather on his way out he informs her Everett already knows....
