"Ah, the things you young folks deal with, it's hard to know how to help without making things worse! Aunt Karen doesn’t ask for much, just... don’t hold a grudge against Felicity. She... she truly loves you."
From a naive adoration to years of studying abroad, his feelings remained unchanged.
Others might not see it, but Karen, she definitely understood her daughter’s heart.
Miles fixed his gaze steadily, his voice trembling, “Aunt Karen, you should've told me earlier, much earlier... I could never resent Felicity. No matter what she does, I just can’t.”
After that, whatever Karen said became a blur to him.
The call ended, and Felicity racked her brain but couldn’t think of any excuse that could make things right.
The air between them thickened, making it hard to breathe.
Their eye contact was intense, with a trace of silent accusation.
Finally, Miles spoke up.
“Silly.”
“…”
Felicity’s first instinct was still to flee.
But he caught her easily, pulling her back in front of him as if she weighed nothing.
“Handing me over so easily, could you really bear it?”
She turned her face away, refusing to meet his gaze, “Why not? We’re not right for each other. It’s only natural for you to find someone who is.”
“Felicity! Are you still planning to hide?”
“This is my home, why should I hide? Mmm—”
To stop her from saying anything more that could infuriate him, Miles chose to seal her words with his.
“Mmm!”
Felicity hadn’t expected him to suddenly close in, biting her lip.
She tried to struggle, but her wrists were easily pinned above her head!
She knew, if the truth came out, he would definitely say he didn’t mind the child.
What she feared was him saying he didn’t mind.
“Langston, don’t be so hasty in deciding you don’t care about having children! Do you understand what it means? You’ll miss out on passing on your lineage, on having a child call you 'Dad', on the joy of watching your own baby take their first steps, their attempts at speech!”
“Compared to losing you, none of that matters to me!” Miles cut her off.
“…”
“What does it matter if there’s no one to carry on my name? You think if we break up, I could just find another woman, get married, have kids, and forget all about you?” His eyes locked onto hers, not wavering for a second, “Let me tell you, that’s impossible! After our breakup, I haven’t even thought about dating someone else!”
Miles could only drown his sorrows in work.
To avoid the heart-wrenching pain that came with memories of her.
“You’re just not over the breakup yet.”
“Felicity, do you really think I’m that heartless?”
