On the way back, Felicity must have been exhausted from all the commotion earlier—she fell asleep almost as soon as they got into the car.
Miles didn’t wake her. Honestly, he was glad she could rest for a while longer.
When they finally got back to Eldorria City, he carefully carried Felicity up to the bedroom before calling his mother.
“Mom, Felicity’s really not feeling well today. We’re going to have to visit another time.”
“That’s alright, honey. Go take care of her,” Dorothy replied. Then, as only a mother can, she added, “Listen, I know we don’t know if Felicity’s pregnant or not, but you need to treat her like she might be. If any doctor prescribes her medication, make sure she doesn’t take anything that’s not safe for pregnant women, alright?”
Miles frowned slightly. “I will.”
Dorothy rushed to explain, “I’m not saying this to pressure you two, or to push you into having a baby. It’s just, I know this has always been a sensitive subject for Felicity. If it does happen, I know she’d be over the moon. But if something went wrong just because no one realized… well, that would be so hard on her.”
Dorothy had always made it clear—she didn’t meddle in her son’s relationships unless he asked for advice. If she noticed something was off, she might offer a word or two, but after that, it was up to them.
“I understand, Mom. I really do.”
“Good.”
After hanging up, Miles glanced back at the bed. Felicity was curled up, sleeping soundly. He couldn’t help but walk over and gently brush her cheek with his hand.
Maybe she sensed him nearby, because even in her sleep, the little furrow in her brow smoothed out.
Miles smiled softly. “All I want is for you to be healthy and happy. That’s enough for me. Everything else… I don’t care about.”
Having her back in his life was more than he’d ever dared to hope for. He didn’t want to ask for anything more.
