"You're really pushing me into a corner here!"
Her mother’s words sounded like a fairy tale to her!
Dorothy didn’t even know when her mother started measuring the solidity of relationships by money.
The Lopez Corporation wasn't just Everett's; it's the product of generations of the Lopez family's hard work. They simply felt impossible to transfer it into her name.
"I'm just using this as an example to show you that no man will give up everything for you. They just talk a big game! If you asked Everett for all his possessions, he wouldn't give them to you and he'd dump you in no time!"
"That's because he would think I'm a greedy woman then," Dorothy responded, feeling that any person would instantly lose their good impression upon hearing such a request.
That shouldn't even be a criterion!
To put it another way, if she was Everett, she would also feel that the girl accepted him only because she wanted something in return.
"There is no such thing as being greedy or not. A man's heart is where his money is," Bella glared at her daughter sternly, "And stop calling me greedy. If I wanted to use you for money, I wouldn't have refused the money you got from a man to treat my illness even if it meant my death! What I'm saying is, I want you to see clearly the gap between you and Everett and how impossible it is!"
"So no man can be trusted as you said. I should just never get married or have a boyfriend in my whole life."
"That's not what I'm saying," Bella suddenly changed her tone, "I think that Kenneth is a good choice."
Dorothy was taken aback by her mother's sudden mention of Kenneth.
"We're just friends," she said, startled.
"But Kenneth likes you," Bella, having been through it all, could tell that Kenneth was serious about her daughter. If she had to pick a son-in-law right now, she'd rather trust Kenneth than anyone else.
Just thinking about the haughty way Everett's mother had come to her made Bella shudder. She could already imagine the hardships her daughter would face if she married into that family!
A man might be able to protect her once or twice, but if his mother was always picking fights and bad-mouthing her, their relationship wouldn't last long.
With Everett as a CEO, there would be plenty of girls trying to seduce him. What would happen to her daughter then?
Compared to that, at least Kenneth's parents had been polite and genuinely liked Dorothy when they met.
"Mom, there's no chance between Kenneth and me."

The intimate scenes in this story or uncomfortable to read. They either come off as being forced, painful, or simply not enjoyable....
Okay I left a long while ago and came back. Looks like it's been updated but still not done lol. I'll maybe wait 6 months before coming back and it'll probably still be going on. It's like a soap opera instead of a novel...
Kenneth is confirming something I've been thinking about him for several hundred chapters ago and that is he is a future murder suicide perpetrator. And after reading chapter 1275 yeah it's just brought the thought back....
How could Jeffrey throw the knife down at the scene of the crime with both their fingerprints on there?...
Again no update, so is this where it ends? Or post the whole book. Your dragging this out...
