He didn't respond; he just stood up and opened the office door, and said, "Please."
Heather's expression was priceless! Her face was a mix of embarrassment, awkwardness, and anger all at once.

Everett was halfway to typing message to Dorothy.
“Don't argue with your mother. I'll see her after sorting things out here." He typed.
Everett knew his mother didn't speak well when she visited her. Dorothy couldn't handle it alone.
"So you no longer care about your father now?" Jonathan was annoyed by his son's indifference.
"You say this because you don't know Dorothy. She's going to be a real asset in investment banking."
"That's because of your strong support. Otherwise, she wouldn't even qualify for a job at Lopez Corporation." Jonathan waved his hand and took a deep breath, "You can't agree to Heather's resignation. Your mother doesn't know yet. If she finds out, she'll get emotional again! Everett, I don't want to bypass you and talk to Dorothy directly. Do you understand?"
The threat was clear in his words.
Everett knew his father wasn't joking. If his father interfered and targeted Dorothy, things would get more complicated.
"I'll handle it appropriately."
"You better be! Also, you must promise me that you won't let Dorothy get involved in the core business of Lopez Corporation! You can give her money or assets, but you can't gamble the entire Lopez Corporation for some romantic feelings."

Why didn't Jeffrey call Everett from the office? Lock his door instruct security to not let anyone in and speak to Everett on the phone? Or send him a text giving him a quick summary of what's up and that he's on his way over. That way when he runs into Heather on his way out he informs her Everett already knows....
The children's stories are si boring. This book is like torture. I've put in so much time I have to see this through but it's becoming more difficult....
