"I guess I'm not either." Dorothy halted in her tracks, not venturing any further. "If I go now, I would only give him hope, and the divorce would be impossible. Heather wouldn't get her wish."
"Everett’s in a coma, and doctors aren't sure when he will wake up, so coming or not is totally up to you." Jeffrey added at the end. "Heather doesn't know. Everett's parents are also unaware. He came to find me directly last night."
Dorothy's lips, already drained of color, quivered. In the end, her worries couldn't outweigh her concern for him. "Which hospital is he in?"
...
Dorothy wondered if Jeffrey was trying to avoid Everett's parents. Because the hospital he had sent Everett to was the one where Bella had always been staying, not the one where Amanda was.
Of course, this was also the hospital where she found out she was pregnant.
So, when she entered, she was very cautious, afraid of running into the doctors or nurses who had examined her.
Fortunately, today was not a weekend, so there were few people and not many doctors or nurses moving around in the hospital.
Dorothy followed the ward number Jeffrey had given her and soon spotted him smoking in front of the ward.
After seeing her, Jeffrey took one last puff before tossing his cigarette to the ground and extinguishing it.
"He's in there."
"Still in a coma?"
"Yep." Jeffrey nodded, his gaze scrutinizing the somewhat haggard woman in front of him. "I want to ask you something. Why did you suddenly decide to leave Everett? Did something happen?"
Being an outsider, he didn't know about Heather's and the Lopez family's plans. He just felt that things had taken a sudden turn.
Weren't these two previously inseparable? They even vowed to stick together through thick and thin.
It was a kind of unconventional beauty, not needing any adornment. Beautiful people always left a mark.
At this moment, Dorothy was so frightened that her heart almost stopped. She was speechless.
Sensing that something was wrong, Jeffrey nodded for her. "Yes, she's Dorothy."
"I knew I couldn't be wrong!" After saying that, the doctor looked at Jeffrey and smiled. "Is this your husband?"
"I'm not." Jeffrey immediately denied it.
He would be damned if he admitted to such a thing. The guy lying inside would probably kill him.
"Oh, sorry about that. I thought you two, a handsome man and a beautiful woman, would be a couple." The doctor felt awkward, but he didn't leave. He laughed and turned his attention to Dorothy, saying seriously, "By the way, how did it go with your husband? About the baby…"

Why didn't Jeffrey call Everett from the office? Lock his door instruct security to not let anyone in and speak to Everett on the phone? Or send him a text giving him a quick summary of what's up and that he's on his way over. That way when he runs into Heather on his way out he informs her Everett already knows....
