"Doctor!" Dorothy suddenly interjected as she tugged the doctor's lab coat and led him away. "I've got some urgent matters to attend to. I'll come to see you when I'm free!"
The doctor, taken aback by her abrupt interruption, nodded dumbly and left with a puzzled expression.
Behind her, Jeffrey sauntered over, causing Dorothy's heart to flutter nervously.
"What was he saying? I didn't quite catch it."
"Nothing much. I had some issues with my medical checkup, and he wanted me to prioritize a follow-up."
Jeffrey raised an eyebrow. "Why would a follow-up require a consultation with your husband?"
"Why are you prying?" Dorothy retorted, feeling annoyed.
This man was really irritating. He was always asking questions. And he was the kind of person who loved to dig deep.
"Never mind; if you don't want to tell me, I can ask the doctor myself."
"Because I found out that I might be infertile for life, so the doctor suggested I discuss it with my husband. Are you satisfied with this answer?"
Dorothy feigned irritation, looking as if her patience was being tested, which seemed to have startled Jeffrey.
With embarrassment and regret all over his face, he apologetically said, "Ah, I'm sorry! One last question. Did you divorce Everett because of this?"
"I'm not that saintly. You know the Lopez family doesn't like me. They've been trying to break us up, including you. Didn't you hope that Everett and Heather would end up together? I thought it over. There's no advantage in fighting the Lopez family. Plus, Kenneth is very good to me and doesn't come with all these troubles, so I chose Kenneth."
Jeffery was speechless.
Dorothy realized that Jeffrey was quite hard to fool, so she tried her best to make her lies sound truthful.
But she didn't expect this to enrage him.
"So, you gave up Everett for that?!"
"Heh."
Did Dorothy care about going to jail or hell? Jeffrey didn’t know how much crap she was dealing with.
…
Inside the hospital room, Everett lay quietly.
If not for the pallor on his handsome face, he would have seemed to be asleep.
He was receiving an IV drip through his left hand while the monitor on his right was beeping steadily.
Dorothy quietly walked over, intending to reach out and touch his skin so she could feel his pulse one last time, but her fingers halted mid-air, not moving further.
Suddenly, the man on the bed called out to her. "Dorothy…"

Why didn't Jeffrey call Everett from the office? Lock his door instruct security to not let anyone in and speak to Everett on the phone? Or send him a text giving him a quick summary of what's up and that he's on his way over. That way when he runs into Heather on his way out he informs her Everett already knows....
