There it was. That tone.
He talked as if he were looking out for his girlfriend.
A smirk crossed Dorothy's lips as a chuckle escaped her. "Thanks for the concern, boss."
His silence was deafening.
If he could blur the lines between work and their personal lives, she could certainly remind him of their relationship status.
…
Night fell.
Dorothy came back to the hotel, took a shower, video-called her daughter, and then finally opened her laptop to work.
Lane had already sent over the new project's details, and she glanced over the information. The due diligence on this project shouldn't be too challenging, but they'd need to focus on the partner company's certification.
Usually, in this agro-industrial processing sector, some corners were cut when it came to product certification and dealings with the Bureau of Industry and Commerce. But unless it was something too ludicrous, it shouldn't cause major problems. Her team had to thoroughly investigate all potential risks when conducting their due diligence to avoid any unpleasant surprises after the contract was signed.
Before opening the detailed information, she picked up her phone to order a cup of coffee.
Suddenly, something came to mind, and she quickly opened WhatsApp to search for a conversation.
[Hello, I'll be leaving Everglow City next week. Would you have time to pick up the original receipt before I leave? Or I could leave it somewhere for you.]
She'd already deleted him once, so it was the least she could do to help him with the invoice. She felt that it was her duty.
By the time Dorothy had placed her coffee order, he had replied.
Dorothy pulled a face and tapped her forehead.
Why was she thinking of him while texting a driver? She must be going crazy.
She didn't know if Jeffrey had said something he shouldn't have to Everett or how Everett would react.
A trace of melancholy flickered in Dorothy's eyes.
But she quickly hid her emotions. She opened the document and began to pore over it, noting down every important point.
Right now, she didn't have time to dwell on these things. She had to focus on her work. She had made her decision four years ago, so these matters didn't warrant further time or thought.
She quickly booked a flight to Havenbrook City and informed her two assistants to directly fly there instead of wasting time coming to Everglow City.

Why didn't Jeffrey call Everett from the office? Lock his door instruct security to not let anyone in and speak to Everett on the phone? Or send him a text giving him a quick summary of what's up and that he's on his way over. That way when he runs into Heather on his way out he informs her Everett already knows....
