Skyler took a bite of a scone, speaking thoughtfully, "Geoffrey only had auntie for family his whole life, unlike me with mom and dad, and a bunch of brothers and sisters. Auntie doesn't make a difference to me, but without her, Geoffrey's just an orphan. That's why he's desperate to save her."

William, with the seriousness of someone beyond his years, crossed his arms and said, "If he hadn't done bad things, he could have had as many relatives and friends as you. He's the architect of his misfortune. There's always something despicable about people who are pitiable."

Skyler sighed, "If he turned over a new leaf, do you think Uncle and dad would forgive him?"

Kane replied, "If he wanted to reform, my dad would give him a chance. Dad always says, 'To err is human, to forgive divine.'"

Skyler figured Uncle and dad would probably send Geoffrey off to some isolated island.

Geoffrey had broken the law, and that was already the best ending he could hope for.
