Noelle spoke coldly. The surroundings were eerily quiet, with only the soft breeze rustling her hair. Her gaze was icy, as if it could pierce through someone’s heart. It chilled Yevgen to the core.
“I’ve liked you for so many years, Noelle,” he said.
“That’s your issue. You liking me is your business; it doesn’t mean I owe you anything for it,” she replied.
“Noelle, why? We’ve been classmates for so many years, and you knew I liked you then too. Back when we were in school, you never pushed me away. I thought that over time, you’d grow to like me,” Yevgen confessed, his heart aching from the rejection.
“Not every affection is reciprocated. Yevgen, I hope you understand that your feelings are yours alone, and you can’t use them to emotionally manipulate me,” she explained.
“Then what about him?” Yevgen pointed at Sean. “What about him? I overheard your mother earlier–he’s the guy she set you up with, and you’re okay with seeing him. So why reject me?”
Yevgen could not help but find Sean an eyesore, especially after seeing him sit at the head table during the event where only Noelle’s grandfathers and Charles were seated.
Being an honored guest and a friend of her grandfather, Charles belonged there, but when Noelle brought Sean over to sit with them, Yevgen felt a surge of jealousy.
Despite Sean’s polished appearance and wealth, Yevgen had never heard of him before and saw him as just another suitor like himself.
Sean raised an eyebrow, amused that he had become the target of someone’s jealousy just by standing there. A faint, playful smile curved his lips. Sean was strikingly handsome–almost more beautiful than a woman. He had a pair of captivating eyes that had charmed countless women.
His usual gentle and courteous demeanor made him seem like a breath of fresh air. Those who did not know him well could easily be deceived by his outward appearance.
Sean did not say a word and just kept his gaze on Noelle. His eyes were full of mischief. He was clearly enjoying the situation.
Noelle pursed her lips, clearly exasperated by Sean’s presence, but she was too powerless to change it. She shot him a warning look, silently telling him not to stir the pot. However, Yevgen misinterpreted this as a sign of affection between them.
“Noelle!” Yevgen exclaimed.
Noelle frowned. “What does this have to do with you? Who I choose to associate with is my own business.

“And what about me?” Yevgen asked, his voice laced with desperation.
“You?” Noelle’s tone hardened. “I’ve told you already–you’re just a friend.” She then added, “Yevgen, I can’t give you the answer you want.”
“Noelle, I’m not asking you to agree to anything right now. Just give me a chance, okay? We’ve known each other for years; you know what kind of person I am.
