Cordelia was bawling her eyes out all day, feeling downright miserable. When she got home, she threw Jamie's book into her suitcase.
Ronan had once rummaged through her suitcase. She reckoned he probably wouldn't be nosy about it anymore.
After doing all that, Cordelia hit the hay, waking up at the crack of dawn the next morning.
Ronan had come home past eight the previous night, by which time Cordelia was out like a light. When he got up, she was in the kitchen whipping up a packed lunch.
"What's cooking today? You didn't go overboard with the salt again, did you?" Ronan asked her.
Cordelia was taken aback, then exclaimed in surprise, "Did I over-salt something yesterday? Which dish was it?"
"The fried steak, were you trying to assault me with a salt overdose?" Ronan joked.
Cordelia was even more startled. Since her father was a big fan of this dish, she had been making it since she was knee-high to a grasshopper. Even if she cooked it with her eyes closed, it would still come out delicious. How could she have over-salted it? Could it be that Ronan preferred a bland taste? If that was the case, she'd use less salt in the future.
Once she got to the office, Cordelia started to crunch the numbers. She overheard someone whispering behind her, "Mr. Evans wasn't in the office yesterday. This document wasn't signed off."
Cordelia thought to herself, “Ronan wasn't at the office yesterday? Where did he go?” Then, where on earth did he eat the lunch I made yesterday?
Just as Cordelia was racking her brain, she received a message from Deanna. [Ms. Haselwood, your cooking skills are really something. I finished off the meal you made yesterday. Just that the fried steak was a bit too salty. You could use less salt next time.]
So, he was out with Deanna yesterday!
So, it was Deanna who had her food!
So, he was making a request on behalf of Deanna this morning!
The first meal she made for him was given to the woman he fancied the most, and he even made requests in front of her! Cordelia was shaking with anger, gritting her teeth. She knew their marriage was a sham, and that it wouldn't last. She didn't expect him to tell her everything, but was there any point in him doing this?
Cordelia felt really hard done by! She figured she might as well have thought of yesterday's meal as dog food!
Then, she texted Brooklyn to have lunch together.
[You're pulling my leg, right? You've got your packed lunch. Why bother asking me out?] Brooklyn wasn't that into it.
[The lunch is for you, I still prefer the heavy flavors from outside.]
[Well then, it's a deal.]
Brooklyn was thrilled. She had been eating out all day long and was sick and tired of it. She really wished someone could cook for her.
