The Contracted Ever After (Cordelia and Ronan) novel Chapter 124

After some thought, Cordelia decided to accept the box of chocolates.

"I've already picked out what I want from the menu. Anything else you want to add?" Cordelia marked her choices on the menu.

"Nah, just go ahead and order."

Cordelia paused for a moment before laying it all out for Jamie. She was worried that Manda might sue her and hoped Jamie would return the bag to Manda and sort this out ASAP. If she were to give the bag to Adrian or Manda herself, she feared she might be in deep water.

"This thing? Adrian's already filled me in. He knew he couldn't get it from you, so he asked me to do it. Also, Manda, she asked me today if I knew any lawyers, and then she wanted me to..."

Cordelia was on edge immediately, "Is she planning to sue?" Just as she thought, Manda was freaking out.

Jamie chuckled, "Yeah. But I've already cooled her down. It's no biggie. I can just get her a new bag."

Cordelia finally breathed a sigh of relief, "Thanks, Mr. Jamie. When my brother gave me this bag, I knew if I didn't accept it, he'd find other ways to mess with me. So I just took it."

"Why does your brother always treat you like this?" Jamie asked Cordelia, still vividly recalling the last incident where Adrian drugged Cordelia.

Cordelia looked sad, "I don't know, he's been jealous of me since we were kids. Maybe because our parents doted on me too much. I'm the youngest in the family, and my folks had me when they were nearly forty. My brother was always a wild child, often ganging up with other kids to pick on me."

Jamie frowned, "Adrian really is too much. I'll have a word with him."

"No, please don't. He'll know I told you." Cordelia said somewhat anxiously, and she pushed the bag towards Jamie, "This is Manda's bag, can you return it for her?"

"Sure, I'll make up a good excuse."

Cordelia smiled, "Thanks, Mr. Colby."

"Stop calling me Mr. Colby, I'm not your teacher anymore."

This time, Cordelia was very grateful to Jamie. This problem, nobody else could solve it but Jamie. Even though both Adrian and Manda went to Jamie, in the end, he still helped Cordelia.

Jamie took the bag from Cordelia, She took the chocolates Jamie gave her, and then, she hopped on the bus back to Pearl Palms.

When she got home, Ronan was reading on the couch. "What's that you're holding?" Ronan casually inquired about the chocolates.

"It's a box of chocolates. My roommate Brooklyn gave it to me." Cordelia figured that if she mentioned Jamie, it might stir up misunderstanding. Ronan would get mad and send her back to her room. So better safe than sorry.

Cordelia put the chocolates in the fridge and headed upstairs to change.

"Stalking? You're overthinking it. Cordelia, I've told you, don't piss me off."

"Ronan, you jerk, tyrant, stalker, selfish..." Cordelia felt like she was being stripped bare. She was prone to tears, and now she stood in the middle of her room, barefoot, tears streaming down her face like rain, crying like a child.

"Cordelia, you brought this on yourself." Ronan was unbuckling his belt. He pushed Cordelia onto the bed and started to unbutton her half-buttoned blouse.

Cordelia was seething and gave Ronan a hard slap. The sound echoed in the room, loud and clear. The room fell into a brief, frightful silence.

Ronan was stunned by the slap, his movements became rougher, and his hand slipped under her blouse. The more he thought about it, the angrier he got. He just transferred her from the Finance Department to the Audit Department and gave her a raise, and she went on a secret date with this guy named Jamie, who once made a fool of himself in front of him. And Cordelia, she seemed pretty sympathetic toward him.

They were both studying accounting, which gave them common ground. And he was her teacher. In addition, Cordelia once wanted to go to his firm.

Ronan was going ham, planting kisses all over Cordelia's face.

When all was done, Cordelia crashed hard.

Ronan got dressed, then headed downstairs.
