"Are you for real?" Adrian got up and walked over to Ronan.
"For real."
"Would you put it in writing and sign a contract with me?" Adrian worried that the opportunity might slip away.
"No need for a contract, I'll have my assistant bring the keys over." After saying this, Ronan went out to make a phone call.
Adrian was stunned, thinking, “Last time, no matter how I persuaded him, it didn't work. Why did he suddenly agree this time?”
Ronan came back and said, "The assistant will bring the keys over in a bit."
Adrian was a little taken aback, feeling like this was too easy.
Shelley felt a bit uneasy and said to Ronan, "You really don’t have to do this!"
"It's fine," Ronan said.
Cordelia was thinking, “What's gotten into Ronan? Is he trying to show off to my mom that he's a good son-in-law?”
But wasn’t this too big of a price to pay? Two houses, based on the property prices in Millstone, was several millions of dollars...
"Are... are you sure?" Cordelia tugged at Ronan's sleeve.
Adrian, in a sycophantic manner, moved a chair behind Ronan. He didn't have a chair to sit on, so he stood behind Ronan.
"Let Shelley rest a bit." Ronan sat down on the chair.
Cordelia knew that Adrian was waiting for Ronan's assistant and wouldn't leave until he saw the keys.
Shelley and Cordelia chatted some more.
Cordelia felt that Shelley seemed to have something on her mind, perhaps she was uneasy about Ronan's gift.
After a while, Ronan's assistant brought the keys over. "Mr. Evans, these are the keys to the two houses in Azul Vista."
"Azul Vista?" Adrian had a surprised look on his face. "That’s…"
That was a well-known luxury property in Millstone.
"Whatever you want in return, ask Cordelia. I won't give you anything," Adrian declared to Ronan.
"Aren't you leaving?" Ronan didn't want to talk to Adrian anymore.
Adrian looked at the keys in his hand. "Actually, I can help you, I'll stand by your side and I won’t help Jamie Colby anymore."
Adrian's attitude changed dramatically. Cordelia felt very awkward.
After visiting Shelley, Ronan and Cordelia went home.
"Do... do you need me to do anything?" Cordelia's voice was a bit small. She felt very uneasy. She knew that there was no such thing as a free lunch.
"Did she pass?" Cordelia asked Ronan, a light flashing in her eyes.
Ronan looked at Cordelia deeply. "Yes."
"Can she be selected?"
"Not necessarily. Did you tell her about Jordan being arrested?" Ronan slowly looked up at Cordelia.
Cordelia thought for a moment. "No, the last time I saw her was when we went out to eat together. You were there too. At that time, Mr. Jordan hadn't been arrested yet. Is there a problem? Could it be…"
Cordelia remembered that on Friday, when she went to see her mom, she mentioned this incident to explain to her mom that Ronan was indeed busy. Maybe Jamie overheard it and asked Brenda to send in her resume.
"Could it be what?" Ronan stared at Cordelia.
Jamie, again!
Cordelia was afraid to say it out loud in case it made Ronan upset, so she didn't say anything. "Nothing, I might be wrong," Cordelia said.
However, Ronan had already guessed from Cordelia's expression that it was probably her who told Jamie.
Ronan tore Brenda's resume out of the pile.
Cordelia just sat there, all quiet and didn't even dare to peep a word, scared she would tick him off again!
