The Contracted Ever After (Cordelia and Ronan) novel Chapter 149

Cordelia didn't come out for dinner all night, nor did she open the door for Ronan. She was worried that Ronan would notice her mood swings and start asking questions. He was a smart cookie, figuring out the truth wouldn't be hard for him.

If Ronan found out she was upset because of Jamie, who knew what he'd do. He once made Jamie grovel before him, for buying clothes for her, only to humiliate Jamie afterwards.

So when Ronan knocked on the door and said, "Cordelia, if you don't open the door, I'm heading back to the mansion." She responded immediately, "Go ahead!"

His pride took a hit from the curt response of his wife. He gave Shelley an awkward smile.

"Well, I'm off then." Ronan was a man of status. Being led by the nose by a girl was already embarrassing. If he stuck around any longer, it would be even more humiliating. He took his keys and left.

After Ronan left, Shelley knocked on Cordelia's door, asking what was wrong. Cordelia replied, "I'm fine, you should get some sleep."

Shelley reluctantly went to her bedroom. Before leaving, she told Cordelia, "You should try to sweet-talk Ronan tomorrow. Men need to be pampered too."

Cordelia just responded with, "Mmhm."

She absent-mindedly fiddled with her phone, trying to calm her emotions. Sending Jamie a message now would be inappropriate. As for this whole situation, it was best to play dumb.

...

Ronan went back to Pearl Palms. His grandpa asked him, "Weren't you staying over at Della's place for the next few days? Why are you back? How's Della's mom?"

"She's fine. I just missed you. That's all," Ronan said as he headed upstairs.
