Ronan impatiently lit a cigarette during the meeting. Sensing Ronan's bad mood, Emerson asked, "Ronan, should we postpone the meeting until tomorrow?"
"No need, let's continue," Ronan replied.
Emerson continued explaining the Finance Department's restructuring plan and how it would affect other departments.
By the end of the day, the entire company knew about the argument between Cordelia and Ronan.
Cordelia's voice was particularly loud, so colleagues said Cordelia threatened to divorce Ronan. No one knew the specifics of the threat.
Cordelia was the first person in the company's history to argue loudly with Ronan in the CEO's office.
Brooklyn sent a message. [Cordelia, you really have the guts to argue with Mr. Evans. If he gets really angry and decides to divorce you, what will you do?]
Cordelia was busy working and didn't reply. She thought to herself that her divorce from Ronan was inevitable anyway.
But just before leaving work, Cordelia suddenly realized that she needed someone to accompany her and her mother back to Roseville. Ronan was definitely not an option, so she had to find someone else.
She messaged Brooklyn. [Brooklyn, do you have any plans for Halloween?]
Brooklyn replied. [Nothing special, probably just watching TV dramas at home. There's been no progress between Edwin and me. It feels like his heart is frozen, and I can't get through. I can't find an excuse to go on a date with him either.] Brooklyn also sent a crying emoji.
Cordelia replied. [For the Halloween, my mother wants me to accompany her to Roseville, my grandmother's house. But my mother has trouble with her legs and can't make it to the bus station on her own. Can you ask Edwin...?]
Cordelia originally wanted to ask Brooklyn to be her driver because she couldn't drive. But seeing that there was no progress between Brooklyn and Edwin, Cordelia made this request, hoping to find an opportunity to help them connect.
Brooklyn replied, [I understand. I'll ask him. It's only natural for me to accompany you and your mother since she has trouble with her legs.]
At the end of the workday, Cordelia and Brooklyn walked and discussed their plans for going to Roseville. They reached the entrance hall. Coincidentally, Ronan's car passed by the company entrance with Emerson in it.
Emerson was Ronan's employee, and after work, they usually went for a drink.
Ronan saw Cordelia at the entrance and then shifted his gaze, closing his eyes briefly.
