When Cordelia left Empower Operations, it was already past four in the afternoon. On her cab ride back to campus, her mind was filled with past images, yet she couldn't pinpoint exactly what she was thinking about, lost in her thoughts.
Back at Unity Hall, Cordelia changed into more comfortable clothes, a T-shirt and shorts. She was about to relax for a bit before heading out to grab dinner when her phone buzzed. [Ms. Haselwood, the basketball game is about to start. I saved you a courtside seat, hurry over.]
Cordelia chuckled, back in her student days, getting a seat at the basketball game was a struggle. Now, as a lecturer, she even had reserved courtside seating. Indeed, life at university was much more vibrant than that of a typical white-collar worker.
[Okay.] Cordelia replied.
She headed to the basketball court, and Sally was already enthusiastically waving her down. "Ms. Haselwood, over here."
Due to Sally's loud greeting, many turned their attention to Cordelia; her long legs were quite eye-catching.
Cordelia saw the seat Sally had saved for her. Indeed, it was a highly visible courtside seat.
"I don't really understand the rules of basketball," Cordelia said to Sally once she settled down.
"We all don't. We're just here to check out the hot guys," Sally said. "Look, there he is. Harold, he's so handsome when he plays."
"Harold?" Cordelia scanned the court, looking for Harold.
"Yes. Half of the girls here came just to see him. He's handsome, and a good player, the captain of the basketball team," Sally said excitedly.
Cordelia laughed, thinking back to her own university days. She was probably just as naive.
When Harold came into sight, his gaze seemed to catch hers. He took off his jersey, sweating heavily. He took a sip of water from his teammate and then gave a hand signal. His teammates high-fived each other, setting the crowd on fire.
Cordelia couldn't help but be reminded of her own university days when Logan was also on the basketball team. He wasn't as good as Harold, just an average player, but in Cordelia's eyes back then, he was the brightest star.
"Ms. Haselwood, isn't Harold good?" Sally asked.
Cordelia snapped out of her thoughts. She had been staring at the court, but not really paying attention to the game or how Harold was playing.
"Yeah, he's pretty good, and he looks very cool when he makes his moves," she said, knowing this was what Sally wanted to hear.
