Branka's cheeks flushed a soft pink as Jeremy kissed her, tears shimmering in her eyes. She looked pitiful yet captivating as she whispered,
"Jeremy, you shouldn't have come here. Today is your wedding day. Your bride is still waiting for you."
Jeremy tightened his embrace around her and said,
"Branka, you don't understand how much I wish... that it could have been you I was marrying!"
As he spoke, he pulled out a ring from his palm and knelt on one knee.
"Branka, will you marry me? When I designed this ring, I could only imagine how perfect it would look on your finger."
My breath quickened, a bitter mixture of sorrow, anger, and pain churning in my chest.
If I hadn’t recognized that ring, I might have lied to myself and believed the man inside wasn’t Jeremy.
Jeremy had spent countless nights perfecting that ring’s design. He had poured his heart into it.
When the final product arrived, I had secretly tried it on, only to discover that it was a size too big for me.
Back then, my heart had been filled with sweetness. I thought Jeremy had been thoughtful, anticipating that my fingers might swell during pregnancy and ensuring the ring would still fit.
I had no idea at the time that he had designed it for his long-lost love, Branka.
What I once considered a beautiful, tender gesture now felt like countless needles piercing my heart.
Unable to watch any longer, I turned and fled, lifting my dress to avoid tripping over it.
Tears blurred my vision until I heard a familiar voice behind me.
"Vera, what are you doing here…"
I turned around and saw Jeremy rushing after me, grabbing my arm.
"Shouldn’t you be explaining this to me?" I demanded, my voice trembling.
Jeremy adjusted his collar impatiently.
"Vera, I'll explain everything after the wedding."
I pointed to Branka, who had followed him out of the dressing room, her wedding dress gleaming under the lights.
