The Day His Demands Broke My Water novel Chapter 51

Time passed quickly, and I had already been in the UK for nearly two months.

Jake Raphael had connected me with top-tier doctors who successfully treated my hands.

Adjusting to life in the UK had been challenging at first, but I was starting to feel at home. Jake had been a tremendous help throughout.

As my current boss, he had gone out of his way to bring me here because he valued my talent.

One day, as I was working, my phone buzzed on the desk.

Answering it, I was met with an anxious voice.

"Vera Devorit! Where... where on earth have you gone?"

It took me a moment to recognize the voice—it was Jeremy.

"Hello," I replied coolly. "If this isn’t important, I’m hanging up."

The person on the other end became frantic.

"Why did you report Branka for plagiarism? Don’t you realize this could ruin her? How could you do this?"

I ended the call before he could finish his rant and immediately blocked the number.

After arriving in the UK, I had changed my phone number and messaging apps.

As for Jeremy’s accusation about reporting Branka for plagiarism, it was something she probably hadn’t anticipated.

He seemed surprised, then a flicker of recognition crossed his face.

"It really is you. I’m one of Jeremy Herson’s classmates. You must’ve seen me at the wedding."

I vaguely recalled him now and couldn’t help but marvel at how small the world could be.

"So, you and Jeremy got divorced? What are you doing at a design company in the UK? Didn’t Jeremy say..." He paused, his tone taking on a mocking edge.

"...that you were nothing but a washed-up has-been?"

"Not divorced. We were never married," I replied with a small smile before turning away with the coffee in hand and heading toward Jake’s office.
