The Day His Demands Broke My Water novel Chapter 53

Since the last incident, Jeremy hadn’t shown up for quite some time. Then again, it might have been because I’d been too busy to leave the office lately.

I had been pouring all my energy into designing a new product, and thankfully, the final result pleased Jake Raphael.

One day, Jake called me into his office and pushed his computer toward me.

"This client from China wants to purchase the copyright to your design. He said your work really resonated with him. What do you think?"

Jake’s gaze was sincere, seeking my input, and something inside me stirred.

He was the boss of the company and could easily have made the decision on his own, yet he chose to consult me.

"If you’re not comfortable with this, I can reject the offer immediately. Don’t feel pressured; I’ll respect your decision entirely," he added when I hesitated for a moment, misunderstanding my pause.

"It’s not that," I clarified. "Could you arrange a meeting with this client for me? I’d like to talk to someone who feels connected to my work."

Jake nodded without hesitation. "Of course."

Soon after, I met with the client at a nearby café. They had arrived before me.

"Vera! It really is you!"

I froze at the familiar voice and turned to see Jeremy, his face lit up with joy as he blocked my way.

Annoyed, I tried to step around him.

"Vera... everything that happened before, it was my fault. I’m sorry. Come back to the country with me, please. I’ve already retrieved your wedding dress. I promise no one will ever take anything from you again."

"I’m arranging the wedding in the way you always wanted. All you have to do is choose the style you like. Let’s go back to how things used to be. Let’s live happily together again," he said, his head lowered. His tone was so humble, far different from the Jeremy I once knew.

But it was too late. I didn’t care for these words anymore. I didn’t love him anymore.

"Jeremy, stop saying pointless things. We can’t go back," I said firmly, turning to leave.

Jeremy grabbed my wrist tightly, stopping me in my tracks.

"Vera... I’ve completely ended things with Branka. I know I’ve done things in the past to hurt you, but I swear, it’ll never happen again."
