After the car accident, I became paralyzed, yet I unexpectedly got pregnant.
When Gavin Braxton heard the news, he was overjoyed. He tenderly took care of me and hired the best doctors to nurse me back to health.
But before long, I stumbled upon a conversation between him and his friend.
Gavin's tone was full of excitement: "This is a sure win!"
His friend chuckled, "Gavin, by the way, that car accident back then—was that your doing?"
"You really are something. Enduring so much humiliation and finally getting your hands on the fortune. Don't forget about us when you're living the high life!"
Gavin's eyes narrowed slightly.
"Watch your mouth! I didn't do this for the money. I only did it so Scarlett wouldn't be able to leave me."
"I love her. That's all."
The conversation in the study continued.
"All these years, wiping and cleaning up after a paralyzed cripple must've been unbearable for you. Luckily, you caught the favor of a wealthy woman," his friend said, his tone dripping with disdain.
Gavin Braxton was silent for a moment before he slowly spoke.
"For her, I'm willing to do it all."
But I wasn't paralyzed due to spinal cord damage—I never experienced incontinence. Gavin knew this perfectly well.
I had planned to tell Gavin about my recovery, but now I had overheard this cruel truth.
Covering my mouth, I stifled my sobs.
At that moment, the housekeeper's voice suddenly came from behind me.
"Ma'am, what are you doing here?"
The words brought the conversation in the study to an abrupt halt.
I quickly maneuvered my wheelchair to leave, but I accidentally caught something.
The wheelchair tipped over, sending me tumbling down the stairs, rolling several times before I came to a stop.
My consciousness faded away.
When I woke up, I was lying in a hospital bed.
Outside the room, I heard the doctor's voice.
"This fall might worsen her paralysis. We'll need further tests to determine the treatment."
But Gavin interrupted the doctor sharply.
"No need for tests. Replace all the medication with supplements instead."
He sneered at the doctor as he continued, "I want my wife to depend on me completely. Once it's done, you'll get a hefty sum."
Hearing this, the doctor could only nod in agreement.
Moments later, Gavin walked into the hospital room.
I feigned a slow awakening.
When he saw I was awake, Gavin rushed to my side. "Scarlett, you're finally awake. Are you alright? You really scared me."
