The interrogation hall in the Inspection Bureau was so silent that the air itself felt heavy. 

Eugene was now feeling an unfamiliar chill creeping up his spine. 

He had been unsettled earlier when Robin threatened to expose his hidden dealings, but the worst–case scenario was just public disgrace. 

He could disappear for a while, wait for the storm to pass, and then return to his old ways. 

But now, hearing Robin’s icy tone, a deep fear took root in his heart. He had heard rumors about the former general of the Special Operations Military Region. 

Robin wasn’t the usual kind of officer–he had come from an unusual background, parachuting into the military world with a style completely different from the traditional chain of command. 

He ignored the rules, disregarded hierarchy, and carried himself with an air of defiance that set him apart. 

It was said that he had ties to the World of Darkness, and ever since he left the military, there had been endless speculation about his true role.

As a deputy director from a prestigious family, he refused to believe that an ordinary person like Robin had ever experienced the ruthless political maneuvering of the elite. 

And yet, after all that, Robin still dared to ignore the constraints of rules and regulations, forging ahead without hesitation or retreat.

At that moment, he wished he could order the law enforcement guards to shoot Robin on the spot. But reason held him back. 

If he couldn’t deal with Robin directly, he would make him disappear behind the scenes. 

With the power of the Fields, Eugene had countless ways to quietly eliminate someone like Robin without a 

trace. 

Suddenly, a commotion erupted outside the hall. “Stop! You can’t go in!” 

“We’re here for Robin and Joanna!” It was the voices of Marissa, Brenda, and Shirley. 

“Mr. Field has ordered that no one is allowed entry!” 

“The Inspection Bureau is supposed to serve the people! Are we to be turned away when we have something to say?” 

Eugene and the staff turned toward the entrance. 

Marissa, Brenda, and Shirley stood outside, anxiously trying to look inside. 

Short in stature, Marissa peered out from under the arm of a law enforcement guard and called out, “Robin! Renee! We’re here!” 

Robin and Joanna exchanged glances, warmth flashing in their eyes when they saw Marrisa’s anxiety. 

Marissa wasn’t highly educated, nor did she hold lofty ideals about justice. 

But when her children faced injustice or danger, she would charge forward without hesitation, fearless in 

her resolve, 

“Move aside!” Marissa shoved against the law enforcement officers. “If anyone dares lay a hand on Robin, I’ll fight them!” 

Eugene watched the scene unfold, his embarrassment deepening. He clenched his jaw. “Let them in! Take their statements, then charge them with unlawfully storming the Inspection Bureau. Detain them!” 

Marissa, Shirley, and Brenda rushed over to Robin and Joanna. 

“Robin!” Shirley stepped forward, her worry evident. If not for the situation, she might have thrown herself into his arms. 

“Renee, they didn’t do anything to you, did they?” 

Joanna shook her head. “I’m fine, Shirley. It’s just… the accusations they’re making are utterly absurd!” 

“Don’t be afraid, Renee,” Marissa said furiously. “This is our money–we don’t have to deal with their ridiculous nonsense!” 

“Who’s in charge here? I just have one question–whose twisted idea was it to drag Joanna through the mud? 

“Her scholarship is completely legal! It was granted through an official agreement with Brighton University’s
